How to Write an Academic Coach Resume

Here’s how to write an academic coach resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are the most effective way to showcase your experience and qualifications. But rather than simply listing your responsibilities, you can use them to demonstrate your impact on the organization and the results of your work.

For example, rather than saying you “developed study guides for students,” you could say you “developed study guides for students in collaboration with faculty, resulting in a 15% increase in first-year retention rate.”

The second bullet point is much more powerful because it provides specific numbers and details about the project. It also ties in the outcome of the project—a higher retention rate—which is always a good thing to do whenever possible.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you submit your resume online, it’s likely that it will be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. These programs look for certain terms related to the job opening in order to determine whether or not you are a good fit. If you don’t have the right keywords on your resume, the ATS might not even forward your application to a recruiter.

To increase your chances of getting an interview, use this list of academic coach keywords as a starting point to help you optimize your resume.

Showcase Your Technical Skills

This might include programs like Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and social media platforms. Additionally, you should be familiar with academic research databases, such as JSTOR and EBSCOhost. Being able to list your level of expertise in each area will show that you’re a valuable asset to any academic institution.
