It’s also important to have a good attention to detail because you will be recording information about each animal’s health and behavior. I am very organized and always prepared with my notes.”

How would you handle an animal that is hostile or aggressive?

This question can help interviewers assess your ability to handle challenging situations. When answering, it can be helpful to describe a specific situation in which you were able to calm an aggressive animal and the steps you took to do so.

Example: “I once worked with a dog that was very hostile toward other dogs. The owner had brought him in for his annual checkup, but he growled at me when I tried to examine him. I remained calm and spoke calmly to the dog while continuing my exam. After a few minutes of this, the dog began to relax and allowed me to finish the exam without any issues.”

What is your process for handling and caring for newborn animals?

This question can help interviewers understand your experience with handling and caring for newborn animals. Use examples from past experiences to explain how you handle newborns, including the steps you take when working with them.

Example: “When I first meet a newborn animal, I make sure that they are warm and comfortable. Then, I check their vital signs, such as breathing rate and heart rate, to ensure everything is normal. Next, I weigh the animal and record its weight in the medical records. Finally, I place the animal back into its mother’s care.”

Provide an example of a time when you had to help an animal recover from an injury or illness.

Interviewers may ask this question to learn more about your experience working with animals and how you can help them recover from injuries or illnesses. So if I noticed another animal care technician was not following safety protocols, I would first approach them privately and let them know what protocol they were breaking. If they did not change their behavior after our conversation, I would report them to my supervisor so they could handle the situation.”

How well do you handle stressful situations?

If any equipment needed repairs, I would immediately report it so that someone could fix it before anyone used it. In addition, I always communicated to other technicians what equipment I had checked and ensured they knew where I found it.”

Example: “I start by thoroughly washing all surfaces with hot water and soap or detergent. I then rinse the enclosure with clean water and allow it to dry completely before moving on to sanitization. What makes you stand out from other candidates for this position?

Employers ask this question to learn more about your qualifications and how you can contribute to their team. When answering, it’s important to highlight a skill or experience that makes you unique from other candidates. You may also want to mention something that is relevant to the job description.

This is because I worked as a veterinary assistant for two years, so I know what to expect when working in a clinic.”

Which types of animals do you most want to work with?

This question can help the interviewer determine if you have a passion for working with animals. It can also show them which types of animals are in their facility and how much experience you have working with those animals. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention an animal that is not in their facility but one that you would like to work with.

When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention an aspect of animal care that you find particularly important or interesting.

Example: “I think the most important part of animal care is making sure that animals are safe and healthy. I love working with animals because I enjoy seeing them happy and healthy, and I feel like my job is to make sure that happens as much as possible. I also think communication is very important in this field. Animals can’t tell us when something is wrong, so we need to be able to communicate effectively with their owners.”

How often do you think an animal should be fed?

This question can help an interviewer determine your knowledge of proper animal care. It is important to consider the type of animal you are feeding and its age when answering this question.

Example: “I think it’s best to feed animals twice a day, once in the morning and again at night. This allows them to eat all their food before they go to bed so they don’t overeat during the night. I also believe that if an animal has access to water throughout the day, they will be less likely to overeat because they won’t feel as hungry. If an animal eats too much at one time, they may get sick or even choke.”
