Emma Goodwin: I made sure to get involved in as many extracurricular activities as possible. I was a part of the Women in Computer Science club and the Society of Women Engineers. I also did a few internships in my field of interest, which was helpful in terms of getting experience and also figuring out what I did and didn’t like.

I would advise other students to do the same – get involved in extracurriculars, do internships, and just generally try to get as much experience as possible.

ClimbtheLadder: What are the most rewarding aspects of your career? What are the most challenging aspects of your career?

Emma Goodwin: The most rewarding aspect of my career is the satisfaction I get from building something that people use and enjoy. It’s also great to work with such talented and driven people who are constantly pushing me to be better.

The most challenging aspect of my career is keeping up with the pace of change. Technology is always evolving and there’s always something new to learn. It can be tough to stay ahead of the curve, but it’s also what makes this career so exciting.

ClimbtheLadder: Was there anything about your Applied Science program that you didn’t expect or anticipate?

Emma Goodwin: I actually didn’t know much about the program when I applied. I was just looking for a good engineering school. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the program. It was really well-rounded and I loved the mix of theory and practical work.
