What are some of the different materials you have worked with as an ASIC design engineer?

Example: “I’ve worked with many different types of materials throughout my career as an ASIC design engineer, including silicon, copper, aluminum and gold. How would you describe the process of designing an ASIC?

After this, I test the chip to ensure it works as expected.”

What is your experience with creating and using computer-aided design software?

The interviewer may ask this question to learn about your experience with the software they use at their company. If you have previous experience using a specific type of design software, explain how it helped you complete your projects and what you learned from using it.

Example: “I’ve used several different types of computer-aided design software in my career so far. I started out using Cadence Allegro Design Suite for my first job as an ASIC design engineer. Describe your experience with 3D modeling.

The interviewer may ask this question to learn more about your experience with a specific software program. You can answer by naming the 3D modeling software you’ve used and describing how it helped you complete your projects.

Example: “I have extensive experience using SolidWorks, which is one of the most popular 3D modeling programs in the industry. I use SolidWorks for all my ASIC design work because it allows me to create models that are highly detailed and accurate.
