Write Compelling Bullet Points

When you’re writing bullet points, it can be tempting to simply list your responsibilities. But that’s not enough to make a strong impression. Instead, you should use your bullet points to demonstrate your impact on the organization.

For example, rather than saying you “managed athletic department budget,” you could say you “reduced athletic department budget by 15% while maintaining top-tier athletic facilities and increasing student athlete graduation rates by 10% over five-year period.”

The second bullet point paints a much clearer picture of the impact of your work. And it also provides specific numbers to demonstrate that impact.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you submit your resume for an athletic director role, it’s likely that it will be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. ATS programs look for specific terms related to the job, like “organizational development” and “player development,” in order to determine whether or not you have the right skills and experience for the position.
