Isaac Lozano: I made sure to get involved in as many extracurricular activities as possible. I joined the Berkeley Association for Psychological Science and attended their conferences. I also did an internship in a research lab on campus. This gave me the opportunity to learn about different research methodologies and to see how psychological theories are applied in the real world.
In addition, I took advantage of the career center on campus. I met with a career counselor to discuss my career goals and to get advice on how to achieve them. I also attended career fairs and networking events. Through these experiences, I was able to land a job at Google.

Isaac Lozano: I would say that a successful person in a behavioral psychology career is someone who is passionate about understanding human behavior. They are curious about why people do the things they do and are always looking for ways to help people improve their lives. They are also excellent communicators and are able to build strong relationships with the people they work with.
ClimbtheLadder: What misconception(s) do people have about a Behavioral Psychology degree, and what would you tell them?
Isaac Lozano: I think the biggest misconception is that all we do is study human behavior. And while that is a big part of it, there’s so much more to it. We also learn about how to design experiments, how to collect and analyze data, and how to apply what we’ve learned to real-world problems.
Behavioral psychology is a really versatile degree, and I think that’s one of the things that I love about it. It’s helped me in my career in a lot of different ways, from understanding how people learn best to how to design more effective training programs.
