Jaidyn Perkins: I think the biggest takeaway from my Big Data program was the ability to think critically about data. A lot of people think that data is just a bunch of numbers, but it’s so much more than that. Data is a story that needs to be told, and it’s up to the data analyst to figure out what that story is.

I also learned a lot about different software tools that I can use to analyze data. I had never heard of some of these tools before, and I don’t think I would have ever learned about them if it wasn’t for my Big Data program.

ClimbtheLadder: What should students interested in Big Data be good at?

Jaidyn Perkins: To be successful in Big Data, students should be good at logical reasoning, problem solving, and programming. They should be able to understand complex systems and be able to design efficient solutions. Additionally, they should be able to effectively communicate their findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

ClimbtheLadder: What was the most challenging course you took? What advice would you give to students who are about to start this course?

Jaidyn Perkins: The most challenging course I took was my big data capstone course. My advice to students who are about to start this course is to be prepared to work on a team and to be prepared to present your findings to a panel of experts.
