13. Do you think it is important to work on your personal development? If so, how do you go about achieving that?

14. If hired, can you show up to work every day on time?

Employers ask this question to make sure you are reliable and dependable. They want employees who will show up on time every day, even during bad weather or other emergencies. In your answer, explain that you have a strong work ethic and always arrive at work on time. Explain that you understand the importance of being on time for work every single day.

Example: “I am someone with a very strong work ethic. I have never been late to work in my entire career. Even when there was an emergency, I made it to work as soon as possible. I know how important it is to be on time for work every single day. I would hate to let anyone down, including myself.”

15. What are some examples of feedback you have received from your previous managers?

This question can help the interviewer get a better idea of your work ethic and how you respond to constructive criticism. When answering this question, it can be helpful to include specific examples of feedback you received from your manager that helped you improve in some way.

17. Can you perform physical labor such as lifting heavy objects throughout your shift?

Big Lots employees may need to lift heavy objects during their shift. Employers ask this question to make sure you’re physically capable of doing so. In your answer, let the employer know that you can perform physical labor. Explain that you have the strength and endurance to do so throughout your shift.

Example: “Yes, I am able to perform physical labor such as lifting heavy objects throughout my shift. Throughout my career, I’ve worked in warehouses where we had to move large boxes of inventory. I’m used to lifting heavy objects and performing manual labor. I believe I have the strength and endurance to complete these tasks throughout my entire shift.”

18. Could you give us an example of a time when you had to solve a difficult problem without consulting your direct supervisor?

This question is designed to assess your problem-solving skills and ability to work independently. When answering this question, it can be helpful to provide an example of a time you solved a problem that was not directly related to your job duties but helped the company in some way.

Example: “At my previous job, I noticed that our customers were having trouble finding certain products on our website. This led to them leaving the site before they could make a purchase. I decided to look into the issue further by testing out the website myself. After doing so, I realized that the search function wasn’t working properly. I contacted the IT department and explained the issue. They fixed the problem within 24 hours.”

19. We believe in giving back to our communities, what causes do you care about?

Big Lots wants to know that you are a compassionate person who cares about the well-being of others. They want to see if your values align with their own and how you might contribute to their company’s philanthropic efforts. When answering this question, it is important to show that you have empathy for those in need and can put forth effort to help them.

20. When was the last time you went above and beyond for a customer?

This question can help the interviewer get a better idea of your customer service skills.
