BTS Interview Process

The interview process at BTS is thorough and can take some time to complete. It typically starts with a phone screening, followed by a personality/work style assessment, a behavioral interview, a skill interview, and finally a work assessment/case study. The entire process can take several weeks to complete.

1. What do you think is the most challenging aspect of being a consultant?

This question can help the interviewer get a better sense of your experience as a consultant and how you’ve overcome challenges in the past. Use examples from previous work experiences to highlight your problem-solving skills, ability to adapt to change and willingness to learn new things.

Example: “The most challenging aspect of being a consultant is that I’m constantly learning new things. In my last role, we were working on a project for a client who was looking to expand their business into Europe. As part of our research, I had to learn about European regulations and standards, which took some time to understand but ultimately helped me provide valuable insight to the client.”

2. How will your experience help BTS achieve its goals and objectives?

This question helps the interviewer determine how your skills and experience can benefit BTS. Use examples from your previous work to show that you’re a valuable asset for the company.

Example: “I have extensive knowledge of project management software, which is an important skill in this role. I’ve used several different types of PMS systems throughout my career, including Microsoft Project, Basecamp and Trello. This experience has helped me understand the importance of using these tools to manage projects effectively. In my last position, I was responsible for managing multiple projects at once, so I’m confident that I can use my expertise to help BTS achieve its goals.”

3. In which area are you strongest in, strategy or execution? Why?

We determined that the best solution would be to hire more employees and provide additional training.”

5. Tell me about a time when you had to work with difficult people on a project.

This question can help an interviewer learn more about your interpersonal skills and how you handle conflict. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention a specific example of when you worked with someone who was difficult but also highlight the steps you took to resolve the situation or improve your relationship with that person.

Example: “In my last role as a project manager, I had a team member who would often miss deadlines and not complete their work on time. This made it challenging for me to meet my own deadlines and expectations from my supervisor. After talking with them about their performance, they agreed to make some changes in order to improve their productivity. They started setting daily reminders on their phone to check in with me at certain times during the day. This helped us both stay accountable to each other and improved our working relationship.”

6. Describe how you have used data analysis to solve problems in the past.

This question can help the interviewer understand how you approach a problem and your ability to use data analysis tools. Use examples from past experience where you used data analysis to solve problems or make decisions.

Example: “In my last role, I was responsible for analyzing customer feedback on our website. This information helped me identify areas of improvement that led to increased sales and overall brand awareness. In another instance, I analyzed social media engagement metrics to determine which content resonated with customers most. This allowed us to create more relevant content for our audience.”

7. Do you have any experience using Microsoft Excel?

Excel is a popular spreadsheet program that many businesses use to organize data. If you have experience using Excel, explain how it helped you in your previous role and what you used it for.

Example: “I’ve been using Microsoft Excel since my undergraduate studies where I learned the basics of creating spreadsheets and analyzing data. In my last position, I was responsible for managing all financial reports and tracking expenses. Using Excel allowed me to create budgets, monitor spending and identify areas where we could save money.”

8. Are you comfortable working with confidential information?

The interviewer may ask this question to assess your ability to keep information confidential. This is especially important in the BTS role, as you will be working with sensitive data and reporting directly to senior management. Your answer should show that you understand the importance of confidentiality and can handle it responsibly.

Example: “I am very comfortable keeping confidential information private. I have worked for several organizations where I had access to confidential information, including financial reports, client lists and other proprietary information. In all cases, I handled the information carefully and never shared it with anyone outside of my team or organization.”

9. What skills will you bring to BTS that other applicants might not?

This question is an opportunity to show your unique value and how you can contribute to the team. When answering this question, think about what skills or experiences you have that other applicants might not. This could include a foreign language you speak, a certification you hold or a specific software program you know how to use.

10. What makes an effective leader?

The interviewer may ask this question to learn more about your leadership style and how you would apply it in their organization. Use examples from your experience that show you can be a strong leader who motivates others, delegates effectively and makes decisions when needed.

Example: “An effective leader is someone who can motivate and inspire others to achieve goals. I believe leaders should also be good communicators who are able to listen to the needs of their team members. As a leader, I try to make sure everyone on my team feels valued and supported so they feel comfortable sharing ideas and concerns with me.”

11. Can you describe a time when you motivated others to complete a task?

This question can help the interviewer understand your leadership skills and how you motivate others to complete a task. Use examples from previous work experiences or personal life that show your ability to lead, inspire and encourage others to achieve goals.

Example: “In my last role as an operations manager, I had to manage a team of five employees who were responsible for completing projects on time. One day, one of our clients requested a change in their project requirements, which would have delayed its completion date by two weeks. Instead of telling my team members about the delay, I asked them to come up with solutions to meet the new deadline. They came up with several ideas, including hiring more employees to help finish the project on time. We ended up meeting the client’s request without any delays.”

12. What is your greatest strength as a manager?

This question can help the interviewer understand how you will fit into their team and what skills you have that could benefit them. When answering this question, it can be helpful to think about a time when your strength helped you achieve success in your previous role.

Example: “My greatest strength as a manager is my ability to communicate effectively with others. I find that many misunderstandings happen because of miscommunication, so I make sure to always ask questions if I’m unsure of something or if someone asks me for clarification. This helps ensure everyone on my team understands expectations and goals.”

13. Describe a time when you worked with a team member who was struggling. How did you help them succeed?

This question can help the interviewer learn more about your leadership skills and how you work with others. Use examples from previous experiences to show that you’re a strong team player who’s willing to help others succeed.

Example: “In my last role, I worked with a colleague who was new to the company. They were struggling to understand our processes and procedures, which made it difficult for them to complete their tasks on time. I offered to help them learn our systems by explaining things in simple terms and providing additional resources they could use to study up on our department. After a few weeks of working together, they felt much more confident in their job.”

14. Have you ever managed multiple projects at once? If so, how did you handle it?

This question can help the interviewer understand your ability to manage multiple projects at once and how you prioritize them. Use examples from previous experience in which you managed multiple projects, organized your time and communicated with others about your progress.

Example: “In my last role as a project manager, I was responsible for managing three different projects simultaneously. Each project had its own unique goals and objectives, but they also overlapped in some ways. For example, one of the projects I worked on involved creating new marketing strategies while another focused on improving customer service.

I used tools like BTS’s portfolio management software to organize all of the information related to each project. This helped me stay organized and communicate effectively with team members who were working on similar tasks.”

15. What kinds of strategic decisions were you involved in making during your last role?

This question can help the interviewer understand your experience with strategic planning and how you apply it to your work. Use examples from your past role that show your ability to make important decisions, analyze information and implement strategies for success.

Example: “In my last position as a senior business analyst, I was responsible for helping my team develop new marketing campaigns and evaluate their effectiveness. One of our biggest projects involved creating an online presence for our company’s products. We had to decide on which social media platforms we wanted to use, create content for those platforms and determine what metrics would be most effective in measuring the campaign’s success.”

16. What are some of the methods you use to keep up with the latest industry trends?

This question can help the interviewer determine how you stay up-to-date with industry news and information. It also shows them that you are passionate about your work and want to learn more about it.

Example: “I subscribe to several newsletters, blogs and social media accounts that provide valuable insights into current trends in business technology. I also attend conferences and seminars where experts share their knowledge on new developments in the field. These methods allow me to keep up with the latest innovations and understand how they can be applied to my role.”

17. How do you manage your calendar?

This question can help the interviewer understand how you prioritize your tasks and manage your time. Use examples from previous experience to explain how you organize your schedule, set deadlines and communicate with others about your progress.

Example: “I use a calendar app on my phone that syncs with my email account. I find this method most effective because it allows me to see all of my appointments in one place. In my last role, I used my calendar to keep track of important meetings, deadlines and other events. I also added reminders to my calendar so I could stay organized throughout the day.”

18. If you could improve one thing about the consulting industry what would it be?

This question is a great way to show your knowledge of the industry and how you can improve it. You should answer this question by identifying an issue in the consulting industry, explaining why it’s important and offering a solution that you would implement if given the opportunity.

Example: “I think one thing we could improve about the consulting industry is the lack of diversity among consultants. I believe that having more diverse perspectives will help us create better solutions for our clients. To address this problem, I would encourage my team to hire more people from underrepresented groups.”

19. What do you know about our company culture?

This question is a great way to show your interest in the company and how you plan to fit into their culture. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention something specific about the company that you admire or relate to.

Example: “I’ve read through the company’s website and social media pages, and I really like what you’re doing here. Your mission statement resonates with me because of my own personal values. I also love the fact that you have an open-door policy for employees. I think it’s important to foster an environment where people feel comfortable coming forward with questions or concerns.”

20. Why should we hire you over someone else?

This question is a great way to show your interviewer that you have the skills and experience necessary for this role. When answering, it can be helpful to highlight specific skills or experiences that are listed in the job description.

Example: “I am an excellent communicator who has proven I can work well with others. In my previous position, I was promoted to team leader after only six months on the job because of my ability to motivate and inspire others. My communication skills also helped me resolve conflicts between coworkers and improve relationships within the company.”
