How to Write a Camera Assistant Resume

Here’s how to write a resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are the most effective way to showcase your experience and qualifications. But rather than simply listing your responsibilities, you can make your resume more interesting by using bullet points to describe the results of your work.

For example, rather than saying you “operated camera equipment during filming of television show,” you could say you “operated camera equipment during filming of television show to capture high-quality footage for use in editing and post-production.”

Notice how the second bullet point is more specific and provides more detail about what exactly you did and the outcome of your work.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you submit your resume for a camera assistant role, it’s likely that it will be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. This system looks for specific terms related to the job, like “steadicam” or “camera operator.” If your resume doesn’t include enough of the right terms, the ATS might not forward it to a recruiter.

To make sure your resume makes it past the ATS, use this list of common camera assistant keywords as a starting point:

  • Camera Operations
  • Cinematography
  • Video Production
  • Video Editing
  • Final Cut Pro
  • Videography
  • Film
  • After Effects
  • Camera
  • Motion Picture
  • Film Production
  • Photography
  • Camera Maintenance
  • Video Post-Production
  • Film Making
  • Camera Operator
  • Editing
  • Camera Accessories
  • Camera Crew
  • DSLR
  • Television
  • Studio Camera
  • Lighting
  • Video
  • Television Production
  • Avid iNEWS
  • Television News
  • NLE
  • Canon 5D
  • Short Films

Showcase Your Technical Skills

As a camera assistant, you need to be proficient in the use of various camera equipment and software programs. This might include experience with DSLR cameras, video editing software, and sound recording equipment. Additionally, many camera assistants are now expected to be familiar with social media platforms, such as Instagram and Snapchat, as they can be used to promote and market their work.
