Insights From a Christian Ministry Graduate

Megan Kidd is a Pastor at First Baptist Church. She has a bachelor’s degree in Christian ministry from Liberty University. Megan has over 10 years of experience in ministry and leadership.

ClimbtheLadder: What were the biggest takeaway(s) you got from your Christian Ministry program that you may not have gotten otherwise?

Megan Kidd: The biggest takeaway that I got from my Christian ministry program was the importance of building relationships with people. In ministry, you are constantly working with people and trying to help them grow in their faith. If you don’t have a good relationship with them, it will be very difficult to help them grow.

Another big takeaway was the importance of being able to effectively communicate with people. In ministry, you are often called upon to speak in front of groups of people. If you can’t communicate effectively, it will be very difficult to get your message across.

ClimbtheLadder: What are the most rewarding aspects of your career? What are the most challenging aspects of your career?

Megan Kidd: The most rewarding aspect of my career is being able to see the impact that I have on people’s lives. It is so fulfilling to see people grow in their faith and to know that I had a part in that. The most challenging aspect of my career is dealing with people’s expectations. People often have unrealistic expectations of pastors and it can be difficult to manage those expectations.

ClimbtheLadder: What misconception(s) do people have about a Christian Ministry degree, and what would you tell them?

Megan Kidd: I think the biggest misconception about a Christian Ministry degree is that it is only for people who want to be pastors or missionaries. While those are certainly valid career paths, there are so many other options for people with a Christian Ministry degree.

You could work in a hospital or non-profit organization, lead a youth group or Bible study, or even start your own business. The possibilities are endless.
