2. How much experience do you have with image processing algorithms?

6. Describe your experience developing software for PC based vision systems.

11. What qualities do you think make up a successful sales engineer?

This question can help the interviewer get to know you as a potential employee and assess your qualifications for the role. Use examples from your own experience or other professionals who have inspired you in your career.

Example: “I think that a successful sales engineer needs to be highly organized, detail-oriented and able to communicate effectively with clients. I’ve seen many engineers who are great at programming but not so good at communicating their ideas to clients. In my last position, I helped one of our engineers develop his communication skills by asking him questions about what he was doing while he worked on projects. He eventually became more confident in explaining his work to clients.”

12. Which languages do you feel most comfortable programming in?

Cognex is a global company, so it’s likely that you’ll need to program in multiple languages. The interviewer may ask this question to see if you have experience programming in C++ and Java. If you do, they may want to know how comfortable you are with these languages. You can answer honestly about your comfort level and explain any past experiences you’ve had with the language.

14. Could you explain what data-driven design means to you?

This question is a great way to determine how you apply your knowledge of Cognex products and services. Data-driven design refers to the process of using data to make decisions about product development, marketing and customer service. Your answer should show that you understand what this term means and can use it in a sentence.

Example: “Data-driven design is when companies use information from their customers to improve their products or services. For example, if I was working for a company that makes software, I would want to know what features users like most so we could continue developing those aspects of our software.”

15. Have you worked on projects involving machine learning before? If so, could you describe them?

17. Are you available to travel if necessary?

If the position requires you to travel, employers may ask this question to make sure you are comfortable with that. If they do, consider how often you would need to travel and if you have any concerns about it. You can also mention some of your past experience traveling for work.

Example: “I am happy to travel as needed. In my last role, I traveled once a month to train new employees on our systems. I enjoyed getting out of the office and meeting new people. However, I understand that there is always a chance that I will be away from home during training or other events.”

18. What is your favorite part about being a sales engineer?

This question is an opportunity to show the interviewer your enthusiasm for this role. When answering, it can be helpful to mention a specific part of the job that you enjoy most and how it helps you succeed in your career.

Example: “My favorite part about being a sales engineer is meeting new people and helping them find solutions to their problems. I love learning about different industries and finding ways to apply our products to help companies grow. It’s rewarding to see customers use our systems successfully.”

19. What is your greatest strength as a sales engineer?

This question allows you to highlight your skills and abilities as a sales engineer. You can discuss how you use your strengths to help clients, meet deadlines or solve problems.
