How to Write a Computer Operator Resume

Here’s how to write a computer operator resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are the most effective way to showcase your experience and qualifications. But rather than simply listing your responsibilities, you can make your bullet points much more interesting and compelling by using specific numbers and metrics.

For example, rather than saying you “managed databases for large-scale projects,” you could say you “managed databases for $10 million customer database project, ensuring all data was properly transferred and all deadlines were met.”

The second bullet point is much more specific and provides a clear sense of the scale and complexity of the project. It also provides a quantifiable result—the project was completed on time and under budget.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you submit your resume online, it’s likely that it will be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. The ATS will search for terms related to the job opening, like “database management” or “data entry.” If your resume doesn’t have enough of the right keywords, the ATS might not forward it to a recruiter.

To increase your chances of getting an interview, use this list of common computer operator keywords as a starting point to help you identify the skills and experience you want to emphasize:

  • Computer Operations
  • Computer Hardware
  • Windows 7
  • Teamwork

Showcase Your Technical Skills

Computer operators use a variety of software programs and systems to perform their jobs. It is important to list your technical skills prominently on your resume in order to show that you are familiar with the essential tools and systems used in this field. Some of the most commonly used programs are Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Dreamweaver. Additionally, computer operators should be familiar with internet browsers, search engines, and social media platforms.
