How to Write a Content Writer Resume

Here’s how to write a content writer resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

The best way to showcase your writing skills is to include examples of your work in your resume. Bullet points are a great way to do this, but you can also include a brief description of the project or assignment and then include a few bullet points that describe your specific contributions.

For example, rather than saying you “wrote blog posts for website,” you could say you “wrote 10 blog posts on topics including SEO, content marketing, and social media, which received over 1,000 views in the first week and were shared on Twitter by a leading industry influencer.”

Notice how the second bullet point is more specific and provides more detail about the project itself as well as the results of your work.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you apply for a content writer role, your resume is likely to be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. These programs look for specific terms related to the job like “copywriting” and “blogging” in order to determine whether you have the skills necessary to succeed in the role. If your resume lacks the right keywords, your application might not make it past the initial screening process.

To increase your chances of getting an interview, use this list of common content writer keywords as a starting point:

Showcase Your Technical Skills

Additionally, you should have experience with content management systems (CMS) and SEO tools, as these will be essential in helping you to create and optimize content for the web.

If you have experience with any of these programs or tools, be sure to list them on your resume. Additionally, you should indicate your level of expertise for each one, as this will show potential employers that you have the skills and experience necessary to do the job.
