Write Compelling Bullet Points

When it comes to writing bullet points, the more specific you can be, the better. Rather than saying you “assisted in drafting legal documents,” you could say that you “assisted in drafting patent infringement complaint for tech startup in accordance with California Code of Civil Procedure.”

The second bullet point is much more specific and provides a clear sense of what you did and the outcome of your work. It also provides a clear sense of the level of complexity of the work, which is always a good thing to do when possible.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you submit your resume for a contract attorney role, it’s likely that it will go through an applicant tracking system (ATS). This system will scan your resume for certain keywords that are related to the job posting. As a contract attorney, you need to be proficient in a variety of software programs in order to effectively do your job.
