When you’re writing bullet points, it can be tempting to focus on the responsibilities of your job. But that’s not enough to make a compelling bullet point. Instead, you want to focus on the results of your work. So rather than saying you “managed social media accounts,” you could say you “increased Twitter followers by 20% in six months, contributing to a 15% increase in website traffic during that time.”
Notice how the second bullet point is more specific and provides more detail about the project and its outcome.
When you submit your resume online, it’s likely that it will be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. These programs look for certain terms related to the job opening in order to determine whether or not you’re a good fit. If your resume doesn’t have enough of the right keywords, the ATS might automatically reject your application.
