20 DaVita Interview Questions and Answers

Prepare for the types of questions you are likely to be asked when interviewing for a position at DaVita.

When you go to a job interview, you can expect to be asked a variety of questions. Some will be general questions about your qualifications and experience, while others will be specific to the company you’re interviewing with.

If you’re interviewing with DaVita, a provider of kidney care services, you can expect to be asked questions about your experience in the healthcare industry, your knowledge of kidney care, and your ability to provide excellent patient care.

To help you prepare for your interview, we’ve compiled a list of sample DaVita interview questions and answers.

DaVita Interview Process

The interview process at DaVita is generally positive, with many reviewers finding the staff friendly and the overall experience laid-back. However, some candidates report feeling ghosted after their interviews, or that the process was too long and drawn-out.

PCT employees report a fairly standard interview process, beginning with an online assessment followed by a phone screening and then an in-person interview. Registered nurses report a similar process, but note that the first contact is usually made via telephone. For management positions, the process is more extensive and may include multiple rounds of interviews as well as presentations or case studies.

Overall, reviewers recommend DaVita as a good place to work, especially for those interested in specialty nursing experiences. However, some caution that the company’s culture may not be a good fit for everyone, and that the interview process can be lengthy and competitive.

Common DaVita Interview Questions

1. How would you handle a difficult patient?

DaVita is a provider that focuses on patient care. Your answer to this question will show the interviewer how you handle challenging situations and how you can use your skills to help patients.

Example: “I have worked with many difficult patients in my previous position, and I know it’s important to remain calm when working with them. When faced with a difficult patient, I try to listen to what they are saying and understand their concerns. Then, I explain our policies and procedures clearly so they understand why we do things the way we do. If they still don’t agree with our policies, I offer to speak with their doctor about their concerns.”

2. What is your experience with dialysis and nephrology?

This question is a great way to show your knowledge of the field and how you can apply it to DaVita’s mission. If you have experience with dialysis or nephrology, describe what you did in that role. If you don’t have direct experience, explain why you’re passionate about working in this field.

Example: “I’ve worked as a nurse for five years now, and I’m very passionate about helping patients live their best lives. When I was looking at different nursing jobs, I found out that DaVita has one of the highest patient satisfaction rates in the industry. I think my skills would be a great fit here.”

3. Describe a time when you had to deal with an upset family member of a patient, how did you handle the situation?

DaVita is a healthcare provider that focuses on the patient experience. As such, they want to ensure you can handle difficult situations with patients and their families. When answering this question, it’s important to show empathy for the family member while also demonstrating your ability to remain calm under pressure.

Example: “I had an instance where I was caring for a patient who had a very upset family member. The family member was demanding answers about why her loved one wasn’t getting better. I calmly explained our treatment plan and how we were working hard to help her loved one get better. She calmed down after hearing my explanation.”

4. Why do you want to work for DaVita?

This question is a great way for the interviewer to learn more about your interest in working for DaVita. When preparing for this question, make sure you read through the job description and highlight any aspects that particularly interest you. Consider also mentioning how your skills and experience align with what they are looking for.

Example: “I am very interested in working for DaVita because of its mission to improve care delivery globally. I have always been passionate about healthcare and believe that DaVita’s innovative approach to patient care could be beneficial to patients everywhere. I would love to work here as an RN because it seems like there is a lot of opportunity for growth and development.”

5. Tell me about a time where you made a mistake on the job.

This question is a great way to learn more about an applicant’s ability to admit their mistakes and how they’ve grown from them. When answering this question, it can be helpful to focus on the steps you took to correct your mistake and improve in that area.

Example: “When I first started working as a nurse, I was so focused on getting through my tasks quickly that I would often forget to check in with patients regularly. This led to me missing some important information about their care needs. After realizing this was happening frequently, I began setting reminders for myself throughout the day to make sure I checked in with each patient at least once every hour.”

6. How does dialysis work?

Dialysis is a process that removes waste and excess water from the blood. The kidneys normally perform this function, but in patients with kidney failure, dialysis is necessary to keep them alive. DaVita uses dialysis machines to treat their patients. Your answer should show you understand how the treatment works.

Example: “Dialysis works by filtering the blood through an artificial kidney machine. This process takes place inside a sterile environment where the patient’s blood flows into the machine. Inside the machine, there are filters that remove waste products and extra fluid from the blood. Then, the cleaned blood returns to the body.”

7. Have you ever been in a conflict with a coworker? If so, how did you resolve it?

This question can help the interviewer gain insight into your interpersonal skills and ability to resolve conflict. When answering this question, it can be beneficial to highlight a specific example of how you resolved a conflict with a coworker in the past.

Example: “In my previous role as an RN, I had a coworker who was constantly late for work. This caused them to miss important meetings and deadlines that could have affected patient care. After speaking with them about their tardiness, they informed me that they were having some personal issues at home that were causing them to arrive late to work. They asked if there was anything I could do to help them get back on track. We came up with a plan where they would meet with our team leader once a week to update us on their progress.”

8. Do you have any experience working with children?

DaVita is a pediatric dialysis provider, and the company wants to ensure that its employees are able to work with children. If you have experience working with kids in your previous roles, share some of your experiences.

Example: “I worked as a camp counselor for three summers during college. I loved being around kids and helping them learn new things. One summer, we had a camper who was homesick. She didn’t want to go back home at the end of the week because she missed me so much. It made me feel good knowing that I helped her enjoy her time away from home.”

This question is an opportunity to show your communication skills and how they can help you succeed in the role. When answering this question, think of a time when you had to communicate with multiple people or groups at once. Explain what steps you took to ensure everyone understood the information you were sharing.

Example: “At my previous job, I was responsible for communicating patient test results to doctors and nurses. To make sure everyone understood the information I shared, I would always provide a brief overview of the results before sending them out. This helped me avoid any confusion about the meaning of the results.”

This question is a great way to show your interviewer that you have done some research on the company and are eager to help it succeed. When answering this question, make sure to highlight any skills or experiences that would be beneficial to DaVita’s team.

Example: “I think my experience as an RN in a hospital setting could be very helpful for DaVita because I know how important it is to provide quality care to patients. In my previous position, I worked with a patient who was transitioning from home healthcare to a hospital setting. I helped them adjust to their new life by providing support and information about what to expect during their stay. This experience has taught me how valuable it is to work with patients and their families to ensure they feel comfortable and safe.”

11. Would you prefer working independently or as part of a team?

DaVita is a provider that values teamwork and collaboration. Your answer should show the interviewer you are willing to work with others to achieve goals.

Example: “I am an independent person, but I also enjoy working in teams. In my previous position, I was part of a team that worked together to provide excellent care for our patients. We were able to share ideas and learn from each other’s experiences. As a result, we improved patient outcomes and reduced costs.”

12. Provide an example of a time when you were able to build strong relationships with others.

Strong interpersonal skills are important for success in healthcare. This question is your opportunity to show the interviewer that you have these skills and can use them effectively.

She had never been under anesthesia before, so I spent extra time talking to her and answering all of her questions. By the day of her surgery, she felt much more comfortable and confident. When she came out of recovery, she told me how glad she was that she chose our hospital.”

13. How do you handle stressful situations? Give us an example from past experiences.

DaVita is a fast-paced environment where you’ll be working with patients who are often in critical condition. The interviewer wants to make sure that you can handle stressful situations and remain calm under pressure.

Example: “I have worked as an ER nurse for the past five years, so I am used to dealing with high-stress situations. In my last position, we had a patient who was experiencing severe pain but couldn’t communicate what it was. We tried everything from medication to physical therapy, but nothing seemed to help. Finally, after hours of trying different approaches, we were able to figure out that he needed surgery on his knee. He was very happy when we finally figured it out.”

14. Are you comfortable handling needles?

DaVita is a healthcare provider that uses needles to administer dialysis. The company wants to ensure you’re comfortable with this aspect of the job and can handle it safely. When answering, be honest about your comfort level and explain how you would work to overcome any discomfort or fear.

Example: “I am very comfortable handling needles. I have been administering injections for five years now, so I’m used to them. However, if I were hired at DaVita, I would want to learn more about the process of dialysis and what patients go through on a daily basis. I think it’s important to understand the patient experience in order to provide better care.”

15. We sometimes receive requests that we cannot fulfill? How would you handle this type of situation?

This question is designed to assess your customer service skills and ability to handle conflict. It’s important to be honest in your answer, but also show that you can work with customers to find a solution.

Example: “I would first apologize for the inconvenience and explain why we cannot fulfill their request. I would then offer them an alternative or suggest another provider who may be able to help. If they are still unhappy, I would ask if there was anything else I could do to make things right.”

16. Tell me about a time where you took initiative to complete a task without being asked?

This question is a great way to show your leadership skills and ability to work independently. When answering this question, it can be helpful to provide specific details about the task you completed and how it helped your team or company.

Example: “At my previous job, I noticed that our patient database was becoming outdated. The information in the system wasn’t accurate, which made it difficult for me to complete my daily tasks. So, I took initiative and created a spreadsheet of all patients with their most recent information. This allowed me to update the database regularly and ensured that we were providing quality care to each patient.”

17. What is your favorite thing about your current role?

This question can help the interviewer get to know you better and understand what motivates you. It also helps them determine if your favorite aspects of your current role align with DaVita’s values. When answering this question, think about what makes you excited to go to work every day.

Example: “My favorite thing about my current role is working with a team that has such a passion for helping others. I love being able to collaborate with other healthcare professionals who are so dedicated to their patients’ well-being. At my last job, I was often the only nurse on staff, which made it hard to find people who shared my commitment to patient care. Here at DaVita, I feel like I have found my tribe.”

18. We need nurses that are willing to go above and beyond for their patients. When was the last time you went out of your way to make sure someone received excellent care?

This question is a great way to show your interviewer that you are willing to go above and beyond for patients. When answering this question, it can be helpful to give an example of when you went out of your way to help someone or provide excellent care.

Example: “When I was working in the emergency room, there was a patient who came in with a broken arm. He was very upset because he had a big presentation at work the next day and couldn’t type with one hand. I offered to type his report for him so he could focus on giving his presentation. He ended up getting promoted after his presentation.”

19. In what ways do you show leadership skills?

DaVita is a company that values leadership skills. Your answer should show the interviewer how you can lead others to achieve goals and objectives.

Example: “I believe in empowering my team members, which means I give them the tools they need to succeed. For example, when I was working as an assistant manager at a local hospital, we had a new nurse who needed help with her patient care. Instead of telling her what to do, I showed her how to perform the task by demonstrating it myself first. She learned quickly from watching me.”

20. We are looking for someone who can adapt to different personalities. Give us an example of a time where you worked successfully with people who had very different personalities than yourself.

This question is a great way to show your ability to work with others and adapt to different personalities. When answering this question, think of a time when you had to work with someone who was very different from yourself. Explain how you were able to adapt to their personality and still get the job done effectively.

Example: “I once worked with a colleague who was much more outgoing than I am. She would often speak up in meetings before anyone else could say anything. At first, it was hard for me to adjust to her style of speaking out loud without being asked. However, after working together for a few months, I learned that she liked to be the one to bring up new ideas or concerns. After realizing this, I started raising my hand more often during meetings so she wouldn’t feel like she needed to do everything.”
