How to Write a Daycare Cook Resume

Here’s how to write a resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

Rather than simply listing your responsibilities, use the bullet points to tell a story about your work. For example, rather than saying you “cooked meals for children,” you could say you “prepared healthy meals for 20 children every day, ensuring they received the proper nutrition while also providing them with a fun and engaging dining experience.”

The second bullet point paints a much more detailed picture of what exactly you did and the results of your work. And it also provides some context by mentioning the number of children you served every day.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you apply for a daycare cook position, your resume is likely to go through an applicant tracking system (ATS). This program will scan your resume for certain keywords related to the job opening. If your resume doesn’t include enough of the right terms, the ATS might reject your application.

One way to make sure your resume makes it past the ATS is to use common daycare cook keywords throughout all sections of your resume. Here are a few examples:

  • Cooking
  • Food Preparation
  • Food & Beverage
  • Catering
  • Culinary Skills
  • Restaurant Management
  • Recipe Development
  • Food Safety
  • Food Service
  • Menu Development
  • Sanitation
  • Nutrition
  • Food Service Operations
  • Food Quality
  • Time Management
  • Culinary Management
  • Customer Service
  • Teaching
  • Teamwork
  • Early Childhood Education
  • Nutrition Education
  • Teaching Cookery
  • Early Childhood Development
  • Childcare
  • Early Childhood Education
  • Research
  • Event Planning
  • Social Media
  • Event Management
  • Public Speaking

Showcase Your Technical Skills

As a daycare cook, you will need to be proficient in the use of various kitchen appliances and cooking tools. Additionally, you will need to be able to follow recipes and prepare food according to the dietary needs of the children in your care. As such, it is important to list any relevant technical skills you have, such as experience with specific kitchen appliances or cooking methods.
