How to Write a Dermatology Medical Assistant Resume

Here’s how to write a resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are the most effective way to showcase your experience and qualifications. But rather than simply listing your duties and responsibilities, you can use them to tell a story about your work. For example, rather than saying you “provided patient care,” you could say you “provided patient care for more than 100 patients each day, prioritizing urgent cases and ensuring all patients received timely care.”

The second bullet point paints a clearer picture of what exactly your job entailed and how you contributed to the organization. It also provides a specific number to demonstrate your level of responsibility.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you apply for a dermatology medical assistant position, your resume is likely to go through an applicant tracking system (ATS). This system will scan your resume for certain keywords related to the job. If your resume doesn’t include enough of the right keywords, your application might not make it past the initial screening process.

To increase your chances of getting an interview, use this list of keywords as a starting point to help you identify the most relevant skills and experiences to include on your resume:

  • Dermatology
  • Medicine
  • Medical Terminology
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Skin
  • Medical Assisting
  • Healthcare
  • Patient Safety
  • Medical Records
  • Vital Signs
  • U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • Hospitals
  • Healthcare Management
  • Medical Billing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Microsoft Access
  • Phlebotomy
  • Medical Coding
  • Skincare
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Immunizations
  • Venipuncture
  • Customer Service
  • Mederma
  • Dermatology Clinics
  • Electronic Medical Record Implementation
  • Health Education
  • Skincare Products
  • Wound Care
  • Skin Cancer

Showcase Your Technical Skills

As a dermatology medical assistant, you will need to be proficient in the use of technology to perform your job effectively. This might include experience with electronic health records (EHR) software, medical billing and coding software, and appointment scheduling software. Additionally, many dermatologists now use digital photography to document patients’ progress, so experience with this type of software is also beneficial.
