Devops refers to a new breed of engineer that is emerging in the tech industry. These individuals combine the skills of a software engineer with those of a systems administrator. They’re responsible for building, maintaining, and monitoring applications and infrastructure.
If you’re ready to break into this exciting field or switch jobs in your current role, you’ll need a resume that highlights your unique skill set. Here are some tips and an example to help you write yours.
Here’s how to write a devops resume of your own.
The bullet points are where you can really shine by using specific examples and numbers. So rather than saying you “managed team of 10 engineers,” you could say you “managed team of 10 engineers to achieve 100% on-time project delivery on $2M+ project in just 6 months.”
Notice how the second bullet point is much more specific and provides more detail about what exactly you did and the results of your work.
If you’re applying for a role as a devops engineer, it’s important to remember that your resume will likely be screened by an applicant tracking system (ATS). These programs scan resumes for certain keywords related to the job opening. If your resume doesn’t include enough of the right terms, your application might not make it past the initial screening.
To increase your chances of getting an interview, use this list of common devops keywords as a starting point and then customize them to fit the specific requirements of the job you’re applying for.
As a Devops engineer, you need to be proficient in a wide range of technologies in order to effectively manage and deploy software applications. Some of the most common Devops tools include: Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Jenkins, and Nagios. In addition, Devops engineers need to be familiar with cloud computing platforms, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure.
If you have experience with any of these tools or platforms, be sure to list them on your resume. Additionally, Devops engineers are often expected to have a strong understanding of programming languages, such as Java, Python, and Ruby. So if you have experience with any of these languages, be sure to list them as well.
