DHL Supply Chain Interview Process

Example: “I always wear my seatbelt when operating a forklift because it’s one of the most important safety measures I can take. Another way I prevent damage is by making sure that all employees who operate forklifts have proper training. Forklifts are dangerous if they’re not used properly, so I also require anyone who operates a forklift to complete annual forklift certification.”

3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Employers ask this question to see if you have a long-term career plan. They want to know that you are committed to their company and the supply chain industry in general. When answering, be honest about your goals for yourself. If you don’t know what you want to do in five years, explain why you’re unsure of your future plans.

Example: “I hope to still be working at DHL Supply Chain in five years. I’m very passionate about my work here and would love to continue growing with the company. I also hope to have earned a promotion by then.”

4. Why should we hire you for this position?

Employers ask this question to learn more about your qualifications and why you are the best candidate for their open position. Before your interview, make a list of reasons why you would be an excellent addition to their team. Consider highlighting any skills or experiences that align with what they’re looking for in a new hire.

Example: “I believe I am the best candidate for this role because of my extensive experience working as a supply chain manager. In my previous role, I managed a large team of employees who were responsible for managing inventory and shipping orders. My leadership skills helped me achieve high sales numbers each quarter, which led to the company’s success.”

5. Do you have any experience working in a team environment?

Working in a team environment is an important part of the DHL Supply Chain role. Employers ask this question to make sure you have experience working with others and collaborating on projects. 7. Have you had to deal with an angry customer before, how did you handle it?

This question is a great way to see how you handle conflict and stress. It’s important for employees in customer service roles to be able to diffuse situations with customers, so it’s beneficial to know how they would respond to an angry customer.

Example: “I’ve had to deal with an angry customer before when I worked at my previous job as a sales associate. One day, a woman came into the store looking for a specific item that we didn’t have in stock. She was very upset about this, but I calmly explained that we were out of stock on that item and offered her other options. She seemed satisfied with my response and left the store.”

8. Describe a time where you were able to work effectively under pressure.

When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention a specific time when you were able to work under pressure and how you overcame the challenge. This can help employers understand your ability to handle stressful situations in the workplace.

Example: “In my previous role as an operations manager for a small business, I was responsible for overseeing all aspects of production. One day, our primary supplier had a large shipment that arrived late. The company didn’t have enough inventory to fulfill our orders, so I had to find another supplier who could provide us with more inventory. Luckily, we found another supplier who could send us additional inventory within two days. We then shipped out the rest of our orders using the new inventory.”

9. Give me an example of when you worked on a project as part of a team.

This question is an opportunity to show your ability to work with others and collaborate. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention a specific project you worked on that was successful because of the teamwork involved.

Example: “At my current job, I am part of a team that works together to ensure our customers receive their shipments as quickly as possible. One time, we had a large shipment come in for one of our largest clients. The shipment contained several boxes of products, but only two were ready to ship out. My team and I decided to split up the remaining boxes into smaller shipments so they could be shipped out over the next few days. This helped us meet our client’s needs while also keeping them happy.”

10. How do you feel about working overtime?

This question can help the interviewer determine if you’re willing to work extra hours when needed. It’s important to be honest about your feelings on this topic, and it may also be helpful to explain why you feel that way.

Example: “I’m happy to work overtime when necessary, but I prefer not to do so regularly. I think it’s more beneficial for me and my coworkers to have a consistent schedule because it helps us all stay focused and productive throughout the day. However, I understand that sometimes there are situations where we need to work longer hours or weekends. In those cases, I’ll do whatever is required of me.”

11. Tell us about a time that you went above and beyond for a customer.

This question can help the interviewer get a better sense of your customer service skills. It can also show them how you might handle challenges in this role. When answering, try to think of an example that shows your dedication and commitment to helping others.

Example: “When I worked at my previous job, we had a client who was having trouble with their shipping software. They were frustrated because they couldn’t figure out how to use it. I offered to come into the office after hours to help them learn how to use the program. After working with them for about two hours, they finally got the hang of it. They thanked me profusely and said they would be able to complete their work much more efficiently.”

12. Are you comfortable working in a fast-paced environment?

Working in a supply chain department can be fast-paced, especially during peak shipping seasons. Employers ask this question to make sure you’re comfortable working in an environment where there’s often a lot of activity and urgency. In your answer, explain that you enjoy being busy and having to multitask. Explain that you are organized enough to manage multiple projects at once.

Example: “I am definitely comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. I thrive when I’m under pressure and have several things to do at once. Throughout my career, I’ve worked in both large and small companies, so I know how to work well in both environments. I always stay on top of my tasks and deliver quality results. I think I would fit in well here.”

13. How would you describe your leadership style?

This question can help the interviewer determine how you would lead your team members at DHL. Your answer should include examples of when you’ve used a specific leadership style and what results it produced.

Example: “I believe in being an approachable leader who is always available to my team for questions or concerns. I also like to delegate tasks so that each member of my team has ownership over their work, which helps them feel more invested in its success. In my last role as a supply chain manager, this strategy helped me build strong relationships with my team members while still achieving high levels of productivity.”

14. Can you tell us about a time when you had to deal with conflict in the workplace?

This question can help the interviewer learn more about your problem-solving skills and how you resolve conflict. Use examples from previous jobs to highlight your ability to work with others, communicate effectively and solve problems.

Example: “In my last role as a supply chain manager for a large retail company, I had two employees who were constantly arguing over their responsibilities. One employee was responsible for inventory management while the other was in charge of shipping and receiving. The employee in charge of shipping and receiving would often blame the inventory manager when products weren’t shipped on time or arrived damaged.

I met with both employees separately to understand what each person’s responsibilities were and why they disagreed. After speaking with them, I realized that the employee in charge of shipping and receiving didn’t have enough staff members to complete all of their tasks. I reassigned some of the employee’s duties to another team member so they could focus on shipping and receiving. This helped reduce the tension between the two employees and improved productivity.”

15. Provide an example of a time when you solved a problem without being asked.

This question can help the interviewer learn more about your problem-solving skills and how you approach challenges. Use examples from previous jobs to highlight your critical thinking, analytical and reasoning skills.

Example: “At my last job, I noticed that our inventory was low on a few items. When I asked my manager why this happened, they said it was because we didn’t order enough of those products. However, I knew that wasn’t true because I had just ordered them two weeks prior. So, I looked into the issue further and found out that one of our employees hadn’t entered the new orders into the system yet. This mistake caused us to run out of some products for a week.”

16. Are you willing to work weekends and holidays?

This question is a way for the interviewer to assess your willingness to work overtime. It’s important that you are willing to do so when necessary, but it’s also important to show that you can balance this with your personal life.

Example: “I am happy to work weekends and holidays if needed, however I try to avoid working on my birthday or other special occasions. I understand that sometimes there isn’t an alternative, but I always make sure to plan ahead so I can spend time with family and friends.”

17. What was your last job like?

This question is a great way to learn more about your potential new employer. It’s also an opportunity for you to share what you like and dislike about your previous job. When answering this question, it can be helpful to focus on the positive aspects of your last job while still being honest about any challenges you faced.

Example: “My last job was with a small shipping company that focused on local deliveries. I enjoyed working there because we were able to get to know our customers well. However, I felt like my career growth opportunities were limited at that company. I’m excited to join DHL Supply Chain because I feel like I’ll have more room to grow here.”

18. Do you have experience operating a forklift?

Forklifts are a common piece of equipment in many warehouses, and the interviewer may want to know if you have experience operating one. If you do, share your previous experience with forklift operation. If you don’t, explain that you’re willing to learn how to operate one.

Example: “I’ve operated a forklift before at my last job. I was responsible for moving pallets from the loading dock into the warehouse using the forklift. It’s an important part of the supply chain process because it helps move large quantities of goods quickly.”

19. What type of technology do you have experience using?

The interviewer may ask this question to learn about your experience with specific software or hardware. Use your answer to highlight the technology you have used in previous roles and explain how it helped you complete your job responsibilities.

Example: “In my last role, I worked with a supply chain management system that integrated with several different types of technology. The system was compatible with barcode scanners, RFID readers and handheld computers. These tools allowed me to scan inventory levels, track shipments and monitor delivery routes. In addition, I also had access to an online database where I could enter shipment information and receive alerts when there were any issues.”

20. What is your favorite aspect of working in logistics?

This question can help the interviewer get to know you as a person and understand what motivates you. Your answer should reflect your personality, but it also needs to show that you have an interest in logistics. You might talk about how much you enjoy problem-solving or working with numbers.

Example: “My favorite aspect of working in logistics is being able to see the impact I’m having on the company’s bottom line. When I find ways to reduce costs or improve efficiency, I feel like I am making a difference. It’s rewarding to be able to use my skills to make things more efficient for the company.”
