When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention some of the most common conditions you treat as well as why they are important to you.
Example: “The most common condition I treat is chest pain. Chest pain is often a symptom of heart disease or other cardiovascular issues, so it’s important that we diagnose and treat patients with chest pain quickly. Another common condition I treat is abdominal pain. Abdominal pain can be caused by many different things, but it’s always important to rule out serious conditions like appendicitis.”

If you have previous experience performing emergency procedures, share what types of procedures you’ve performed and the outcomes of those patients. If you don’t have direct experience, you can discuss any training or certifications you may have that allow you to perform these procedures.
Example: “I do not have direct experience performing emergency procedures, however I am certified in CPR and first aid through the American Heart Association. Example: “When performing a physical exam on a patient, I first check their vital signs, including their pulse, respiratory rate and blood pressure. These are important indicators of a patient’s overall health and help me determine if they have any urgent medical needs. Next, I listen to their lungs for any abnormalities in their breathing pattern. Finally, I examine their skin color and temperature to ensure it is within normal ranges.”
Infection control is a major concern in the emergency department. The interviewer may ask you this question to assess your knowledge of infection control procedures and how you would implement them into their facility. In your answer, explain what steps you would take to ensure that patients are safe from infections and how you would encourage staff members to follow these procedures.
Example: “I think it’s important for all staff members to practice universal precautions at all times. This means washing hands before entering the patient room, wearing gloves when touching blood or bodily fluids and using disinfectants on surfaces after each visit with a patient.
