As an entrepreneur, you wear many hats. You’re the CEO, the CFO, the COO, and often the janitor, too. So, when it comes time to interview for a new hire, it can be difficult to know what questions to ask to find the right fit.

Do they have the drive to work long hours? The tenacity to never give up? The creativity to think outside the box?

To help you find the perfect candidate, we’ve compiled a list of the best entrepreneurial interview questions. These questions will help you gauge a candidate’s entrepreneurial mindset and see if they have what it takes to succeed in your company.

1. What is the difference between a startup and an SME?

This question is a great way to test your knowledge of the startup world. It also allows you to show how you can apply what you know about startups to an organization that’s already established. Your answer should include two or three main differences between SMEs and startups, as well as examples of each type of business.

Example: “A startup is typically a new company with innovative ideas and products. They are usually led by young entrepreneurs who want to make their mark on the world. An SME, or small-to-medium enterprise, is more established than a startup. They have been in business for at least five years and have proven themselves to be successful.”

2. How do you define entrepreneurship? Can it be taught or learned?

This question is a great way to show your knowledge of the entrepreneurial process. It also allows you to explain how you developed your skills as an entrepreneur and what you learned along the way.

Example: “Entrepreneurship can be defined in many ways, but I believe it’s someone who has the ability to take risks and make decisions that will benefit their business or company. While some people are born with this skill set, I think anyone can learn to become an entrepreneur by developing these skills. For me, entrepreneurship was something I had to learn over time. I started out working for other companies before deciding to start my own.”

3. What are some of the most important traits necessary for being a successful entrepreneur?

This question is a great way to show your interviewer that you have the skills and traits necessary for success as an entrepreneur. When answering this question, it can be helpful to list several traits and explain why they are important.

Example: “I believe some of the most important traits for being a successful entrepreneur include creativity, innovation, problem-solving skills and communication skills. As an entrepreneur, you need to be able to come up with new ideas and solutions to problems. You also need to be able to communicate effectively with others in order to get feedback on your ideas and build relationships with people who can help you grow your business.”

4. What’s your take on innovation in business? Does it really lead to better profitability?

However, there’s no guarantee that the existing business will be profitable or even have a good reputation.”

8. What is the importance of risk management for entrepreneurs?

12. What skills would you recommend learning before starting out on your own?
