Executive Search Consultant Resume Example & Writing Guide

Use this Executive Search Consultant resume example and guide to improve your career and write a powerful resume that will separate you from the competition.

Executive search consultants are hired by companies to recruit top talent for high-level positions. They’re often called upon to find candidates who possess the skills, experience, and qualifications necessary to lead a team or grow a business.

Because executive search consultants work with highly skilled professionals who are often in high demand, they need to know how to effectively communicate their client’s needs while also showcasing their own strengths. And because they’re often working with candidates who are currently employed elsewhere, consultants must know how to navigate the tricky waters of confidentiality while still providing a compelling reason for someone to leave their current role.

Here are some tips and an example to help you write an executive search consultant resume that hiring managers will love.

How to Write an Executive Search Consultant Resume

Here’s how to write an resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

The best way to make your resume stand out is to use specific examples and numbers. So rather than saying you “managed recruitment process for large-scale search,” you could say you “managed recruitment process for large-scale search for senior-level engineering positions, resulting in more than 200 applications and 10 candidate interviews in just two weeks.”

The second bullet point is much stronger because it provides specific details about what you did, the results of your work, and the number of people involved.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you apply for a recruiter role, your resume goes through an applicant tracking system (ATS). This system scans your resume for certain keywords related to the job opening. If your resume doesn’t include enough of the right terms, your application might not make it past the initial screening.

To increase your chances of getting an interview, use this list of executive search consultant keywords as a starting point to help you identify the skills and experience most relevant to the role:

  • Executive Search
  • Recruiting
  • Sourcing
  • Executive Management
  • Succession Planning
  • Human Resources (HR)
  • Interviewing
  • Strategy
  • Business Development
  • Consulting
  • Change Management
  • Talent Management
  • Business Strategy
  • Employee Relations
  • Strategy Consulting
  • Management Consulting
  • Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A)
  • Performance Management
  • Project Management
  • Compensation & Benefits
  • Leadership
  • Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)
  • Business Relationship Management
  • Business Planning
  • Executive Search Process
  • Internet Recruiting
  • Screening
  • Contract Recruitment
  • Sourcing Tools
  • Operating Systems

Showcase Your Technical Skills

As an executive search consultant, you need to be proficient in a variety of software programs and databases in order to effectively do your job. This might include programs like LinkedIn Recruiter, Boolean search strings, and resume parsing software. Additionally, you should be familiar with different types of applicant tracking systems (ATS) and how to use them.

Listing your technical skills prominently on your resume will show that you are a valuable candidate who is familiar with the essential tools and systems used in your field.
