How to Write a Fine Dining Server Resume

Here’s how to write a fine dining server resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are the most important part of your resume because they’re the only thing hiring managers will have to go on when they’re deciding whether or not to interview you. So it’s crucial that you use them to your advantage by highlighting your most impressive achievements and strongest skills.

But just listing your duties and responsibilities is not enough. Instead, you need to use your bullet points to tell a story about your experience. And the best way to do that is by using specific numbers, percentages, and statistics.

For example, rather than saying you “provided excellent customer service,” you could say that you “provided excellent customer service by consistently receiving perfect 5-star ratings on customer satisfaction surveys.”

The second bullet point is much stronger because it provides specific details about what you did and the results of your work.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you apply for a fine dining server position, your resume is likely to go through an applicant tracking system (ATS). This program will scan your resume for specific keywords related to the job, like “hospitality” or “banquet services.” If your resume doesn’t have enough of the right terms, the ATS might not submit it to the hiring manager for further review.

To increase your chances of getting an interview, use this list of fine dining server keywords as a starting point to help you identify the skills and experience you should include on your resume:

  • Food & Beverage
  • Teamwork
  • Customer Service
  • Hospitality
  • Communication
  • Microsoft Access
  • Event Planning
  • Public Speaking
  • Social Media
  • Leadership
  • Time Management
  • Organization Skills
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Catering
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Sales
  • Tourism
  • Adobe InDesign
  • Banquet Operations
  • Fine Dining
  • Pre-opening
  • Wine
  • Problem Solving
  • Customer Satisfaction
  • Food Service
  • Cashiering
  • Cocktails
  • Restaurant Management
  • Waiting Tables
  • Research

Showcase Your Technical Skills

Fine dining servers need to be proficient in a number of technologies in order to provide the best service possible to their guests. Some of the technologies that servers should be familiar with include: point-of-sale (POS) systems, reservation systems, table management systems, and patron tracking systems. Additionally, servers should be well-versed in different types of wine, cocktails, and food preparation.
