Example: “I worked as a cashier at my local grocery store during high school and college. This job taught me valuable customer service skills and helped me develop my ability to multitask while remaining calm under pressure. I also learned how to work efficiently and effectively within a budget.”

3. Give me an example of a time when you had to deal with a difficult or upset customer, how did you handle it?

This question is an opportunity to show your customer service skills and how you can resolve conflict. When answering this question, it’s important to be honest about the situation and highlight what you learned from the experience.

Example: “In my previous role as a sales associate at a home improvement store, I had a customer who was upset because we didn’t have any more of a certain type of tile in stock. The customer became increasingly frustrated with me, which made me feel uncomfortable. After that interaction, I spoke with my manager about ways to handle similar situations better in the future.”

4. Do you have any experience handling cash and operating a cash register?

Cashiers are an important part of the Floor and Decor team. The company wants to know that you have experience working with cash, as well as a register. If you do not have any experience, it is okay to admit this. You can explain what your previous job entailed and how it prepared you for this position.

Example: “I worked at my family’s hardware store growing up. I was responsible for helping customers find products they needed and ringing them up at the register. This experience taught me how to work in a fast-paced environment and helped me develop my customer service skills.”

5. How do you think our company can improve on customer service?

This question is a great way to show your knowledge of the company and how you can help it grow. When answering this question, make sure to mention specific ways that Floor & Decor could improve its customer service and what you would do to implement those changes.

Example: “I think one area where Floor & Decor could improve on customer service is by offering more personalized experiences for customers. For example, I would suggest implementing an online chat feature so customers can get answers to their questions faster. Another improvement would be to offer free shipping on all orders over $100.”

6. Tell me about a time where you made a mistake at work, what was the situation and how did you handle it?

9. Are you comfortable lifting heavy objects?

10. How would you approach a potential client who’s not sure what they want?

This question can help the interviewer assess your customer service skills and ability to guide customers through their shopping experience. Use examples from previous jobs or describe how you would approach a client who’s unsure of what they want in a flooring store.

Example: “I’ve worked with clients before who weren’t sure about what kind of flooring they wanted, so I always start by asking them questions about their lifestyle and preferences. For example, if they have children, I ask them about safety concerns like slipping on spills or scuffs. If they’re looking for something more decorative, I ask them about their favorite colors and styles.”

11. What would you say is your greatest strength and weakness?

This question is a common one in interviews, and it’s important to be honest. Employers want to know what your greatest strengths are so they can use them to help the company grow. They also want to know about any weaknesses you have so they can help you improve or find ways for you to work around them.

Example: “My greatest strength is my attention to detail. I am very thorough when working on projects, which helps me ensure that every customer has an excellent experience with our products. 12. Have you ever worked in a warehouse before?

Example: “I’ve never worked in a warehouse setting, but I do have plenty of experience working with inventory management software. This helped me learn how to use different types of inventory management software and understand how they can help streamline operations.”

13. What steps would you take if you noticed a co-worker stealing?

This question can help interviewers understand how you would handle a challenging situation at work. When answering, it can be helpful to describe the steps you would take to report any theft and ensure that your company’s resources are protected.

Example: “If I noticed a co-worker stealing from Floor & Decor, I would first try to talk with them about their actions. If they continued to steal after our conversation, I would immediately report my suspicions to management so we could investigate further. 14. It is common for us to receive large shipments at once. How well do you work under pressure?

15. Floor & Decor does regular inventory checks. How would you make sure all items were accounted for?

16. Why should we hire you over someone else?

17. How would you respond to a negative review from a customer?

When working for a company that sells products online, you may occasionally receive negative reviews from customers. Interviewers want to know how you would respond to these situations and ensure the customer has a positive experience with their product or service.

Example: “I believe it’s important to take every review seriously, even if they are negative. I would first thank them for their feedback and apologize for any inconvenience caused by our product or service. Then, I would ask what we could do to make things right. If there is an issue with the product itself, I would offer to replace it at no cost. If the problem was due to shipping or delivery, I would offer a discount on their next purchase.”

18. Are you comfortable communicating with customers directly?

This question can help the interviewer determine if you have experience working with customers directly and how comfortable you are doing so. If you do not have direct customer service experience, you can highlight your communication skills and ability to learn quickly.

Example: “In my previous role as a sales associate at a home improvement store, I was responsible for answering any questions customers had about our products or services. I found that I enjoyed helping people find solutions to their flooring needs and developed strong communication skills in the process. While I don’t have direct customer service experience, I am confident that I could learn this skill quickly.”

19. We occasionally have to manage up to 10 people at one time, Would you feel comfortable being in charge of such a group?

This question is a great way to determine if you’re ready for the responsibilities of management. It’s also an opportunity to show your leadership skills and how you would handle such a large group.

Example: “I’ve been managing up to five people at one time for several years now, so I feel confident that I could manage a larger team as well. In fact, I think it would be exciting to have more people to work with and help grow their careers.”

20. What makes you qualified for this position?

Employers ask this question to learn more about your qualifications and how they relate to the job description. Before you go into an interview, make sure you thoroughly read through the job description so that you can highlight any skills or experience you have that match what the employer is looking for.

Example: “I am a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills. I am also very organized and detail-oriented, which makes me well suited for working in retail. My previous work experience has given me valuable customer service skills as well as knowledge of various flooring products. These skills make me confident that I would be able to succeed in this position.”
