6. Describe your leadership style.

As a store manager, you’ll need to be able to lead your team. Your hiring manager will want to know that you can effectively communicate with and motivate your employees. When answering this question, try to describe how you would use your leadership skills to help the company achieve its goals.

Example: “I believe in being an approachable leader who is always available to my team members. I think it’s important for managers to show their support for their teams by celebrating their successes and helping them through challenges. I also think it’s important to set clear expectations and hold myself and my team members accountable for meeting those expectations.”

7. How would you approach a dissatisfied customer?

This question can help the interviewer assess your customer service skills and how you handle conflict. Use examples from past experiences to highlight your problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills.

Example: “I once had a customer who was looking for a specific type of pillow that they couldn’t find in our store. I asked them if they knew what kind of material it was made out of, but they didn’t know. I then offered to call other HomeGoods stores within a 50-mile radius to see if any of them carried the same product. After calling all the stores, we found one that had the pillows. The customer was very happy with my solution.”

8. Have you ever dealt with an irate customer before? If so, what was the situation and how did you resolve it?

10. Provide an example of a time where you went above and beyond for a customer.
