Write Compelling Bullet Points

When you’re writing bullet points, it can be tempting to simply list your responsibilities. But that’s not enough to make a strong impression. Instead, you should use your bullet points to demonstrate how you’ve used your skills and experience to contribute to the organization.

For example, rather than saying you “managed cases for new immigrants,” you could say that you “managed cases for more than 200 new immigrants, providing case management services and referrals for legal, medical, and social services as needed.”

The second bullet point paints a much clearer picture of what exactly you did and how you contributed to the organization. And it also provides a specific number to demonstrate your level of involvement.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you submit your resume online, it’s likely that it will be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. These programs look for specific terms related to the job opening in order to determine whether or not you have the skills and experience required for the role.
