How to Write an Informatics Analyst Resume

Here’s how to write an resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are the most important part of your resume because they’re the first thing recruiters will see. And since they’re so important, it’s crucial that you use them to your advantage by crafting them carefully and including specific details about your experience and accomplishments.

For example, rather than saying you “analyzed data,” you could say you “analyzed data from patient surveys to identify trends in patient satisfaction and recommend changes to improve hospital operations.”

The second bullet point is much stronger because it provides more detail about what exactly you did and the results of your work.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

Applicant tracking systems (ATS) are used by many companies to help them manage the influx of resumes they receive. When you submit your resume, the ATS will scan it for certain keywords related to the job opening. If your resume doesn’t have enough of the right keywords, the ATS might not rank it high enough for a recruiter to see it.

One way to make sure your resume contains the right keywords is to read through the job posting and take note of the terms that are used most frequently. Then, throughout all stages of the application process, be sure to include those same terms in your resume, cover letter, and any other documents you submit. Here are some of the most common keywords for informatics analyst roles:

  • Healthcare Information Technology (HIT)
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Informatics
  • Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE)
  • Healthcare
  • HL7 Standards
  • Epic Systems
  • U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • Clinical Research
  • Hospitals
  • Healthcare Management
  • Data Analysis
  • Clinical Trials
  • Healthcare Information Security
  • Informatics Applications
  • SQL
  • Medical Terminology
  • Nursing
  • Microsoft Access
  • Patient Safety
  • Healthcare Consulting
  • Data Mining
  • Requirements Analysis
  • Web Services
  • PHP
  • Linux
  • JavaScript
  • XML
  • Healthcare Data Privacy
  • Cloud Computing

Showcase Your Technical Skills

As an informatics analyst, you will be responsible for analyzing data and developing information systems. To do this effectively, you will need to be proficient in a variety of software programs and databases. Some of the most commonly used programs in this field include SAS, SPSS, and Stata. You should also have experience working with big data platforms like Hadoop, Hive, and Spark.
