How to Write an Insurance Agent Resume

Here’s how to write an insurance agent resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are the most effective way to showcase your experience and qualifications. But rather than simply listing your responsibilities, you can make your bullet points much more interesting and compelling by using specific numbers and statistics.

For example, rather than saying you “assisted customers with insurance questions,” you could say that you “assisted 200+ customers with insurance questions each week, resulting in a 98% satisfaction rate.”

The second bullet point is much more interesting and compelling because it provides specific details about what you did and the results of your work.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you apply for an insurance agent role, your resume is likely to be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. The ATS will look for keywords related to the job, like “health insurance” or “life insurance” in order to determine whether your skills and experience are a match for the position. If your resume doesn’t include enough of the right keywords, your application might not make it past the initial screening process.

To make sure you have a shot at getting an interview, make sure to include relevant keywords throughout all parts of your resume. You can add them into the work experience, skills, summary, and education sections. Here are some of the most commonly used insurance agent keywords:

  • Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Property & Casualty Insurance
  • General Insurance
  • Commercial Insurance
  • Liability
  • Health Insurance
  • Underwriting
  • Term Life Insurance
  • Homeowners Insurance
  • Umbrella Insurance
  • Casualty Insurance
  • Working with Brokers
  • Inland Marine
  • Reinsurance
  • Professional Liability
  • Disability Insurance
  • Working with Agents
  • Risk Management
  • Sales
  • Customer Service
  • Marketing
  • Financial Services
  • Retirement Planning
  • Investments
  • Financial Planning
  • Management
  • Business Development
  • Team Leadership
  • Microsoft Access

Showcase Your Technical Skills

Insurance agents use a variety of software programs to process claims and quotes, and to manage their client relationships. They are also typically familiar with insurance company systems and procedures. So it’s important for insurance agents to list their technical skills on their resumes. Some of the most commonly used programs are:

-Microsoft Office Suite -Excel -Word -Access -Salesforce -Insurance company specific software
