To help you prepare, we’ve compiled a list of sample InterDigital interview questions and answers.

InterDigital Interview Process

The interview process at InterDigital can vary depending on the position you are applying for. For some positions, like Machine Learning Engineer and Researcher, the process consists of two stages. The first stage is a skimming of your job description, and the second stage is an interview with team leaders. This interview is mainly to get to know you and your research topic. For other positions, like Graduate Student Researcher and 5G Researcher, the process consists of multiple interviews spanning over a few weeks. These interviews may be with team members in different countries, and include questions about your experience and skills.

1. Tell me about a time when you had to deal with an angry customer, how did you handle it?

This question can help the interviewer determine how you handle conflict and stress. Use examples from your previous experience to show that you have the ability to remain calm under pressure, solve problems and communicate effectively with others.

Example: “In my last position as a customer service representative for an internet provider, I had a customer who was upset because they were having trouble connecting to our network. After listening to their concerns, I determined that there was nothing wrong with their device or connection. I apologized for any inconvenience and offered them a discount on their next bill. They appreciated the gesture and said they would be willing to give us another chance.”

2. What do you know about InterDigital’s products and services?

This question is a great way for the interviewer to assess your knowledge of their company and its offerings. It’s important that you thoroughly research the company before your interview, so you can confidently answer this question with examples of how InterDigital’s products or services have helped you in the past.

Example: “I’ve used InterDigital’s products and services in my previous roles as an IT professional. I find them to be highly effective at improving network performance and reducing latency. In fact, when I worked for XYZ Company, we implemented InterDigital’s solutions to improve our mobile broadband speeds by 20%. This allowed us to provide better service to our customers.”

3. How would you prioritize multiple projects that are due at the same time?

This question can help the interviewer assess your time management skills and ability to work under pressure. Use examples from previous projects or experiences that highlight your ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and manage your time effectively.

Example: “I would first look at each project’s deadline and determine which one is most important. Then I would break down each task into smaller steps so I could complete them in a timely manner. This helps me stay on track with my progress and ensures I don’t get overwhelmed by large projects. In my last role, I had multiple projects due within a week of each other, but I was able to successfully complete all of them on time.”

4. Why should we hire you over another candidate?

This question is a great way to show your knowledge of the company and how you can be an asset. You should include information about what attracted you to this role, why you are qualified for it and any other relevant details that make you stand out from other candidates.

Example: “I am very passionate about technology and innovation, which led me to apply for this position. I have been following InterDigital’s work in mobile technologies for years, so I know all about the innovative solutions you provide. I would love to be part of the team that creates these solutions and helps businesses use them effectively.

Another reason I think I would be a good fit for this job is my experience with digital marketing. I have worked as a social media manager for several companies, so I understand how important it is to create content that attracts customers. I also have some experience working with influencers, so I could help you develop strategies to reach more people through their channels.”

5. Do you have any experience working in the telecommunications industry?

This question can help the interviewer determine if you have any experience working in a similar industry. If you do, they may ask you to describe your previous job duties and how they relate to the position you’re interviewing for. If you don’t have experience in telecommunications, you can talk about your relevant skills and how they could apply to this role.

Example: “I worked as an IT specialist at my last company where I helped employees with their computer issues. This is very similar to what I would be doing in this role because I would also be helping customers with technical problems. In fact, I think my customer service skills will help me provide better support to InterDigital’s clients.”

6. Describe your communication style.

This question is an opportunity to show your potential employer that you can communicate effectively with others. When answering this question, it’s important to be honest about your communication style and how it has helped you succeed in previous roles.

Example: “I believe effective communication is the key to success in any role. I am always sure to make myself available to my team members so they know I’m there for them when they need me. I also like to meet regularly with my direct reports to discuss their progress and provide feedback on their work. This helps ensure everyone feels supported and valued.”

7. If hired, what would be your approach to creating new software for our customers?

This question is an opportunity to show your creativity and problem-solving skills. Your answer should include a specific example of how you would approach this task, as well as the steps you would take to complete it.

Example: “I would first research our customers’ needs and wants in order to understand what they’re looking for in their software. I would then create prototypes of different ideas that could fulfill these needs and wants. After testing each prototype with our customers, I would choose one idea and develop it into a full program. This process has worked well for me in the past because it allows me to get feedback from our customers early on in the development process.”

8. What is your experience working on teams?

Working in a team environment is an important part of the job. Employers ask this question to make sure you have experience working with others and collaborating on projects. Use your answer to highlight any teamwork skills you possess, such as communication, collaboration or leadership.

Example: “I’ve worked on teams throughout my career. In my last role, I was one of three people who managed our social media accounts. We each took turns posting content and responding to comments and questions from followers. I also led a group project in college where we had to create a marketing plan for a new product. My teammates and I all contributed ideas that helped us win first place.”

9. Can you tell us about a time when you had to work on something that was not straightforward?

This question is a great way to see how you approach challenges and solve problems. When answering, it can be helpful to describe the problem in detail and then explain your thought process and what steps you took to resolve the issue.

Example: “When I was working as an IT manager for a small business, we had a server crash that caused all of our computers to shut down. We were unable to access any data or programs on the computers, so I called my team together to discuss possible solutions. After discussing several options, we decided to purchase new servers and hire a technician to install them. This solution allowed us to get back up and running quickly.”

10. What is your favorite programming language?

This question is a common one in many technical interviews. It allows the interviewer to see if you have experience with their company’s programming language and how it compares to other languages. If you don’t have any experience with InterDigital, consider asking about what languages they use before answering this question.

Example: “My favorite programming language is Java because of its object-oriented nature and large library of resources. I’ve used Java for most of my career, but I also know C++, Python and JavaScript. I find that knowing multiple languages helps me understand new ones more quickly.”

11. We want our employees to be able to work independently. Are you comfortable working alone?

This question helps employers determine if you are comfortable working independently. They want to know that you can work without constant supervision and still produce quality results. Use your answer to show the employer that you are a self-starter who is willing to take on new challenges.

Example: “I am very comfortable working alone, especially when I have a clear idea of what needs to be done. In my last role, I was often tasked with completing projects or assignments on my own. This helped me develop my time management skills and learn how to prioritize tasks. I find that I am able to get more work done when I don’t have someone looking over my shoulder.”

12. What is your greatest strength and weakness?

This question is a common one in interviews. It allows you to highlight your strengths and weaknesses, which can help the interviewer get to know you better. When answering this question, it’s important to be honest about both your strength and weakness. You should also try to choose two that are relevant to the position you’re applying for.

Example: “My greatest strength is my ability to work well with others. I am always willing to collaborate with others on projects and offer advice when needed. My weakness is that sometimes I’m too helpful. I want to do everything I can to help my team succeed, but sometimes I need to learn how to say no. This has been something I’ve worked on over the years.”

13. What types of programs do you have experience developing?

This question is a great way to show the interviewer your technical skills. It’s important to be honest about what you have experience with, but it can also be beneficial to mention that you’re willing to learn new programs if necessary.

Example: “I’ve worked on both front-end and back-end development for my previous company. I’m comfortable working with JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3 and Java. I also have some experience with Ruby on Rails, Python and PHP.”

14. How would you describe your leadership style?

This question can help the interviewer determine how you would lead a team of digital marketers. Your leadership style is an important part of your overall professional development, so it’s important to be honest about what type of leader you are and how you’ve been successful in that role.

Example: “I believe my leadership style is collaborative. I like to work with my team members to come up with ideas for campaigns or new ways to reach customers. I also value feedback from my team members, as it helps me understand their perspectives on projects and how we can improve our processes. In my last position, this approach helped me develop a strong rapport with my team members and led to more innovative marketing strategies.”

15. Have you ever been asked to take on more responsibility than you were ready for? How did you handle it?

This question can help the interviewer get a better sense of your ability to take on more responsibility when needed. Use examples from previous work experiences where you were asked to do something that was challenging, but you successfully completed it and helped your team or company in some way.

Example: “When I first started working at my current job, I was given an assignment that required me to create a new website for one of our clients. At the time, I had only created websites using basic HTML coding, so this was a challenge for me. However, I took the initiative to learn how to use more advanced coding languages like CSS and JavaScript to complete the project. The client loved the final product, and I learned a valuable skill that has helped me throughout my career.”

16. What is your experience with managing people or projects?

This question can help the interviewer understand your leadership skills and how you might fit into their company. Use examples from previous roles to highlight your management style, communication skills and ability to work with a team.

Example: “In my last role as an account manager, I was responsible for managing two other account managers and one sales representative. My primary responsibility was ensuring that all three employees were meeting their goals each month. I also helped them develop strategies to improve their performance and provided feedback on their work. In this role, I learned how to delegate tasks effectively and communicate clearly with my team.”

17. What are some things that you think could be improved about the company?

This question is a way for the interviewer to assess your ability to be honest and constructive. It’s important to remember that you’re interviewing for a position, not applying for a job. You want to show that you have an interest in helping the company improve its processes and procedures.

Example: “I think one thing that could be improved about InterDigital is the communication between departments. I’ve noticed that there are times when we don’t know what other teams are working on or if they need any help. This can lead to projects being delayed or even abandoned. I would like to see more collaboration between teams so that we can work together to meet deadlines.”

18. What steps would you take to develop a new product for our customers?

This question is a great way to show your problem-solving skills and ability to work in a team. When answering this question, it can be helpful to list the steps you would take to develop a new product for InterDigital’s customers.

Example: “I would first research what our customers are looking for in a new product. I would then create a plan of action with my team on how we could best meet those needs. After that, I would begin developing the product by creating a prototype and testing it out with some of our target audience. Once I have feedback from them, I would make any necessary changes before releasing the product.”

19. What do you think is the most important thing to remember when trying to be innovative?

This question is a great way to show your understanding of the company’s culture and values. It also allows you to talk about how you approach innovation in your own work. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention an example of when you were innovative or creative in your previous role.

Example: “I think that one of the most important things to remember when trying to be innovative is to always keep learning. I’ve found that by reading articles and books on new technologies and trends, I’m able to stay up-to-date with what’s happening in my industry. This helps me come up with more creative solutions for clients.”

20. How would you handle a project that was behind schedule?

This question can help the interviewer assess your time management skills and ability to work under pressure. Use examples from previous projects where you were able to meet deadlines or adjust schedules to complete a project on time.

Example: “In my last role, I was tasked with creating an online marketing strategy for a client’s new product launch. The company wanted to increase sales by 20% within six months of the product release. However, after conducting research, I found that this goal would be difficult to achieve because our client didn’t have enough budget to advertise their product effectively. Instead, we decided to focus on increasing brand awareness through social media channels. We also created a plan to implement additional advertising strategies in the future once the company had more revenue.”
