Mesa Air Interview Process

1. What are your thoughts on the current state of the airline industry?

They want to know if you’re aware of current trends, challenges and opportunities in the airline industry. In your answer, try to show that you understand what’s going on in the industry and why these changes are happening.

Example: “I think the biggest challenge facing the airline industry is finding a way to make flying more affordable for customers. Airlines have been cutting costs by reducing legroom, eliminating complimentary meals and increasing fees for checked bags and other services. I believe airlines should find ways to cut costs without making their flights less comfortable or convenient for passengers.”

2. How would you handle an upset passenger?

This question can help the interviewer assess your customer service skills. Use examples from past experiences to highlight how you handled a challenging situation and helped resolve it.

Example: “In my last position, I had an upset passenger who was waiting for their luggage at baggage claim. They were very frustrated because they couldn’t find their bags. I approached them and asked if they needed any assistance. The passenger told me that they didn’t know where their bags were. I explained our policy of lost luggage and offered to call them when we found their bags. After speaking with them, I noticed they were more calm and reassured. I stayed with them until their bags arrived.”

3. Why do you want to work at Mesa Air Group?

This question can help the interviewer determine if you have a genuine interest in working for their company. It’s important to show that you’ve done your research on Mesa Air Group and understand what makes it unique. 4. Do you have any experience working with aircraft maintenance?

This question is an opportunity to show your knowledge of the aviation industry and how you can apply it to this role. If you have experience working with aircraft maintenance, explain what that entailed. If you don’t have direct experience, you can still discuss a time when you worked on a project or helped someone else complete a task.

Example: “I’ve never had any formal training in aircraft maintenance, but I did work as a mechanic for my uncle’s garage growing up. He would let me help him fix cars, which gave me valuable insight into how he completed tasks and taught me how to troubleshoot problems. This led to me getting hired at my current job where I am responsible for completing quality checks on planes before they take off.”

5. Describe a time when you had to deal with a difficult co-worker or team member.

This question can help the interviewer determine how you handle conflict and whether you’re able to work with others. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention a specific situation where you were able to resolve conflict or compromise with another person.

Example: “In my last position as an accountant, I had a coworker who was very detail-oriented when it came to our accounting reports. While I also like to ensure that all of my numbers are correct, he would often take longer than necessary to double-check his work, which sometimes caused us to miss deadlines for submitting financial information. We eventually talked about the issue, and we both agreed to meet in the middle by checking our work more thoroughly but not taking quite as long as before.”

6. Tell me about a time where you were able to improve a process in the workplace.

This question is a great way to show your problem-solving skills and ability to work as part of a team. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention the steps you took to improve the process and how it benefited the company or organization.

Example: “At my previous job, I noticed that we were having issues with our customer service department. Customers would call in with questions about their orders and often times they weren’t receiving the answers they needed. I decided to meet with the customer service manager to discuss ways we could improve the situation. We came up with a plan where we would hire more employees for the department so there was always someone available to answer calls.”

7. Have you ever worked in a fast paced environment before?

The company wants to know if you are willing to travel for extended periods of time and work overnight flights. When answering this question, be honest about your availability. If you have any limitations, explain them clearly.

Example: “I am available for overnight flights and extended travel. I understand that working as a pilot for Mesa Air means traveling frequently. However, I do have one limitation. I cannot fly while pregnant or nursing. I plan to wait until my children are at least two years old before returning to work.”

10. Do you have any experience working in customer service?

12. What is the most important thing to remember when dealing with passengers?

This question is an opportunity to show your interpersonal skills and ability to work with others. Your answer should include a specific example of how you helped passengers in the past, along with what you learned from that experience.

Example: “The most important thing I remember when dealing with passengers is to remain calm. In my last job as a flight attendant, we had a situation where one of our pilots was late for his shift. We were already boarding the plane when he arrived, so I took control of the situation and explained the situation to the passengers. They seemed understanding, but it was still stressful. Afterward, I talked to the pilot about being on time and stressed the importance of communication.”

13. What would you say is your greatest strength?

This question is a common one in interviews, and it’s important to be honest. Mesa Air wants to know what your greatest strengths are so they can use them to help the company succeed. When answering this question, think about which skills you have that will benefit you in this role.

Example: “My greatest strength is my ability to work well under pressure. I am able to stay calm when things get hectic, and I’m always willing to take on more responsibilities if needed. If you don’t have previous training experience, explain what you would expect from the company’s training program.

16. What are some of your favorite destinations?

This question can help the interviewer get to know you a little better. They may ask this question to see if your interests align with their company’s goals and objectives. When answering, try to choose destinations that are popular among Mesa Air customers.

Example: “I love visiting Hawaii because of its beautiful beaches and tropical weather. I also enjoy going to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. The city is so lively during that time of year, and it’s fun to watch all the parades and festivities. Another destination I really like is Las Vegas. It’s such an exciting place to visit, and there are always new things to do.”

17. Tell me about a time when you had to work under pressure.

Mesa Air is a fast-paced environment, and employers ask this question to make sure you can handle the pressure of working in an airline. Use your answer to show that you are capable of handling stressful situations. Explain how you handled the situation and what skills helped you succeed.

19. How familiar are you with emergency procedures?

Mesa Air is a commercial airline, so it’s important that you understand the company’s emergency procedures. When answering this question, make sure to highlight your knowledge of Mesa Air’s policies and how they apply to an emergency situation.

Example: “I am very familiar with Mesa Air’s emergency procedures because I have worked for them for five years. In my current position as a flight attendant, I’ve had to use these procedures many times when responding to emergencies on board the plane or in the terminal. 20. Do you have any experience working with aviation software?

Mesa Air Group is a large company that uses many different software programs to manage its operations. The interviewer may ask this question to learn if you have any experience with aviation software and how familiar you are with it. Use your answer to explain which aviation software you’ve used in the past and what you liked about it. Explain that you’re willing to learn new systems quickly if necessary.

Example: “I’ve worked with several aviation software programs during my career, including SkyTrac, FlightPlan and NavDataPro. I find these programs very useful for managing flight data and keeping track of important information. In fact, I prefer using software over paper records because it’s easier to sort through all the data and make changes as needed. If hired by Mesa Air Group, I would be happy to learn more about their specific software.”
