How to Write a News Producer Resume

Here’s how to write a news producer resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are the most effective way to showcase your experience and qualifications. But rather than simply listing your responsibilities, you can make your bullet points much more interesting and compelling by using specific numbers and statistics.

For example, rather than saying you “produced daily news stories for website and TV station,” you could say that you “produced daily news stories for website and TV station, resulting in an average of 15 million monthly views and a 5% increase in viewership over the past year.”

The second bullet point paints a much clearer picture of the scope of your work and the results of your efforts. And it provides a quantifiable number to demonstrate your impact.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you apply for a news producer role, your resume is likely to be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. These programs search your resume for terms like “video editing” or “news production” to see if your skills match the job description. If you don’t have enough relevant keywords on your resume, the ATS might discard your application.

To increase your chances of landing an interview, use this list of common news producer keywords to help you optimize your resume:

  • News Writing
  • Broadcast Journalism
  • Breaking News

Showcase Your Technical Skills

News producers rely on technology to help them create and deliver news stories. They use computers to write and edit scripts, create graphics and videos, and post stories to social media. They also use technology to research stories and gather information.

Recruiters are looking for news producers who are familiar with the latest tools and technologies. So if you have experience with any of the following programs or platforms, be sure to list them on your resume:
