How to Write a Nutrition Counselor Resume

Here’s how to write a resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are the most important part of your resume because they’re the first thing recruiters will read. And they’re the best way to showcase your experience and qualifications.

So it’s crucial that you use them to your advantage. And the best way to do that is by using specific, descriptive language. For example, rather than saying you “provided nutritional counseling,” you could say you “provided nutritional counseling for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy to help them maintain weight and muscle mass during treatment.”

The second bullet point is much more specific and provides more detail about what you did and the results of your work.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you apply for a nutrition counselor role, your resume is likely to be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. This software looks for certain terms related to the job, like “nutrition counseling” or “dietitian” in order to determine whether your experience is a match for the position. If your resume doesn’t include enough of the right terms, the ATS might filter out your application.

To increase your chances of getting an interview, use this list of commonly used nutrition counselor keywords as a guide:

  • Nutrition Counseling
  • Nutrition
  • Dietetics
  • Food Science

Showcase Your Technical Skills

As a nutrition counselor, you need to be proficient in the use of technology in order to effectively do your job. This might include familiarity with nutrition databases, food tracking software, and online resources. Additionally, you need to be able to use programs like Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite to create schedules, track payments, and communicate with clients.
