How to Write a Photographer Videographer Resume

Here’s how to write a resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are the most effective way to showcase your experience and skills. But rather than simply listing your responsibilities, you can use them to tell a story about your work. For example, rather than saying you “shot and edited photos for website,” you could say you “shot and edited photos for website, resulting in a 50% increase in website traffic over six-month period.”

The second bullet point is much stronger because it provides specific numbers and details about the project. It also provides context about how the work impacted the company as a whole.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you submit your resume for a photographer or videographer role, it’s likely that it will go through an applicant tracking system (ATS). This system is designed to scan your resume for specific keywords related to the job opening. If your resume doesn’t include enough of the right terms, your application might not make it past the initial screening process.

One way to make sure you have enough relevant keywords on your resume is to read through the job posting and take note of the terms that are used most frequently. Then, try to use those same terms throughout all the sections of your resume, especially in the skills and experience sections. You can also use this list of commonly used photographer and videographer keywords as a starting point:

  • Photography
  • Videography
  • Adobe Lightroom
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Wedding Photography
  • Video Production
  • Event Photography
  • After Effects
  • Commercial Photography
  • Film
  • Videoconferencing
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Camera Operation
  • Photojournalism
  • Editing
  • Final Cut Pro
  • Photography Portfolio
  • Broadcasting
  • Broadcasting Technology
  • Digital Photography
  • Fine Art Photography
  • Advertising
  • Modeling
  • Video Editing
  • Social Media
  • Studio Photography
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Commercial Videography
  • Food Photography

Showcase Your Technical Skills

As a photographer or videographer, you need to be proficient in the use of specific software programs and equipment in order to do your job. For instance, you should be familiar with photo and video editing software, like Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro. Additionally, you should have experience with popular camera brands and models, as well as tripods, lighting, and other photography and videography equipment.

Recruiters are looking for candidates who have a strong technical foundation and are able to produce high-quality photos and videos. So if you have the relevant skills and experience, be sure to list them prominently on your resume.
