How to Write a Plasterer Resume

Here’s how to write a resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are the most effective way to showcase your experience and qualifications. But rather than simply listing your responsibilities, you can make your resume more interesting by using bullet points to describe the results of your work.

For example, rather than saying you “installed wallboard in new construction project,” you could say that you “installed 1,000 square feet of wallboard in new construction project, resulting in on-time completion of project and zero defects.”

Notice how the second bullet point is more specific and provides more detail about the project itself as well as the outcome of the work.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you submit your resume online, it’s likely that it will be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. The ATS will search for terms related to the job opening, like “drywall” or “plastering.” If your resume doesn’t include enough of the right terms, the ATS might not forward your application to a recruiter.

To increase your chances of getting an interview, use the list below as a starting point and then add in other relevant keywords that are specific to the position you’re applying for:

  • Plastering
  • Drywall
  • Construction
  • Painting
  • Carpentry
  • Taping
  • House Painting
  • Framing
  • Home Renovation
  • Flooring
  • Drywall Taping
  • Ceilings
  • Contracting
  • Home Repair
  • Concrete
  • Wall Cladding
  • Finishing
  • Sheetrock
  • Exterior
  • Interior Design
  • Waterproofing
  • Bricklaying
  • Decorative Plaster
  • Skimming
  • Formwork
  • Plaster
  • Tuck Pointing
  • Rendering
  • Tile Setting
  • Commercial Painting

Showcase Your Technical Skills

As a plasterer, you need to be proficient in the use of a variety of tools and materials. This might include experience with plastering guns, trowels, hawk and floats, and scaffolding. You should also list any experience you have with specific types of plaster, such as gypsum, lime, or cement. Finally, if you have experience with any other construction-related trades, like carpentry or masonry, be sure to list those skills as well.
