How to Write a Policy Manager Resume

Write Compelling Bullet Points

When you’re writing your resume bullet points, it can be tempting to simply list your responsibilities and duties. But rather than simply describing what you did, you can make your resume much stronger by focusing on the results of your work.

For example, rather than saying you “managed policy department,” you could say that you “reduced budget by 15% while increasing departmental efficiency by 10%, resulting in a net increase of $2 million in annual revenue for company.”

The second bullet point paints a much clearer picture of what you did and the results of your work. And it also provides a specific number to quantify the impact of your work.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you apply for a policy manager role, your resume is likely to be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. This system looks for terms related to the job, like “policy analysis” and “risk management” in order to determine whether you have the skills needed for the position. If your resume doesn’t include enough of the right keywords, your application might not make it past the initial screening process.
