How to Write a Portfolio Manager Resume

Here’s how to write a portfolio manager resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are the most important part of your resume because they’re the first thing recruiters and hiring managers will see. And they’re the best way to showcase your experience and qualifications.

So it’s important to use them to their full potential. And that means using them to describe your accomplishments and results. So rather than saying you “managed portfolio,” you could say you “managed $10M portfolio of luxury hotels, resulting in 15% increase in revenue over 18-month period.”

The second bullet point is much more specific and provides more detail about what you did and the results of your work. And that makes it much more interesting and compelling to read.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you submit your resume for a portfolio manager role, it’s likely that it will be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. These programs look for specific terms related to the position, like “investment analysis” or “financial modeling.” If your resume doesn’t include enough of the right terms, the ATS might discard your application before a human ever sees it.

To increase your chances of getting an interview, use this list of commonly used portfolio manager keywords as a starting point to help you identify the skills, experience, and qualities that are most important for the role:

  • Portfolio Management
  • Asset Management

Showcase Your Technical Skills

As a portfolio manager, you are responsible for the management and investment of assets. In order to do this job effectively, you need to be proficient in the use of technology. This might include familiarity with financial analysis software, portfolio management software, and investment analysis software. Additionally, portfolio managers need to be knowledgeable about the investment landscape and the various investment vehicles available.
