Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are the most effective way to showcase your experience and qualifications. But rather than simply listing your responsibilities, you can use them to demonstrate your knowledge of the industry and your ability to deliver results.

For example, rather than saying you “edited and proofread documents,” you could say that you “edited and proofread 300+ resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles for spelling, grammar, and formatting errors, ensuring all documents were ready for submission to hiring managers.”

Notice how the second bullet point is more specific and provides more detail about what exactly you did. It also includes a number to demonstrate the scale of the project.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you apply for a proofreader role, your resume goes through an applicant tracking system (ATS). This program scans your resume for specific keywords related to the position, like “copy editing” or “proofreading.” If your resume lacks these keywords, the ATS might automatically reject your application.
