How to Write a Real Estate Agent Resume

Here’s how to write a real estate agent resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are the most important part of your resume because they’re the first thing recruiters will read. And they’re the best way to showcase your experience and qualifications.

But many candidates make the mistake of using generic bullet points that don’t really tell a story or provide any context about their experience.

Instead, you should use your bullet points to tell a story about your experience. And that story should be about how you helped your clients or contributed to the success of a project.

For example, rather than saying you “assisted clients with finding homes,” you could say you “assisted 20+ clients with finding homes in the DC metro area, resulting in an average closing rate of 90% over the past year.”

The second bullet point paints a much clearer picture of what you did and how you contributed to the success of your clients and the company.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you apply for a job as a real estate agent, your resume is likely to go through an applicant tracking system (ATS). This system will scan your resume for certain keywords related to the job opening. If your resume doesn’t have enough of the right terms, the ATS might automatically reject your application.

To increase your chances of getting an interview, use this list of common real estate agent keywords to help you optimize your resume:

  • Real Estate
  • Working with First-Time Home Buyers
  • Investment Properties
  • Residential Real Estate
  • Sellers
  • Real Estate Transactions
  • Buyer Representation
  • Relocation
  • Single Family Homes
  • New Home Sales
  • Short Sales
  • Foreclosures
  • Condos
  • Listings
  • Referrals
  • Real Estate Owned (REO)
  • Listing Homes
  • Real Estate Financing
  • Real Property
  • Negotiation
  • Brokerage
  • Real Estate Development
  • Commercial Real Estate
  • Marketing
  • Sales
  • Marketing Strategy
  • Business Planning
  • Customer Service
  • Business Development
  • Management

Showcase Your Technical Skills

Real estate agents need to be proficient in a variety of technologies in order to do their jobs effectively. This might include familiarity with MLS systems, transaction management software, or social media platforms. Additionally, real estate agents need to be able to use technology to communicate with other members of the real estate industry, including brokers, title agents, and lenders.
