If you’re a detail-oriented person who thrives on routine tasks and loves working with numbers, you might be a great fit for a legal career as a real estate legal assistant.
But before you can land that dream job, you need to write a stellar resume that will get hiring managers excited about bringing you on board. Here are some tips and an example resume to help you write yours.
Here’s how to write a real estate legal assistant resume of your own.
When you’re writing bullet points, it can be tempting to simply list your responsibilities. But that’s not enough to make a strong impression. Instead, you should use your bullet points to demonstrate your value by highlighting your contributions to projects and initiatives.
For example, rather than saying you “provided legal support for real estate transactions,” you could say you “provided legal support for more than 100 commercial real estate transactions worth more than $1 billion, including drafting leases, reviewing contracts, and negotiating terms with tenants and landlords.”
Notice how the second bullet point is more specific and provides more detail about the nature of the work. It also includes a quantifiable number to demonstrate the scale of the project.
When you submit your resume online, it’s likely that it will be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. This program will search for terms related to the job opening, like “real estate law” or “title search” in order to determine whether your skills and experience are a match. If your resume doesn’t include enough relevant keywords, the ATS might discard your application.
