How to Write a Renewable Energy Engineer Resume

Here’s how to write a renewable energy engineer resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

When you’re writing bullet points, it can be tempting to focus on the technical aspects of your work. But that’s not always the most effective approach.

Instead, you can use your bullet points to showcase your skills and experience while also providing context about the projects you worked on and the results of your work.

For example, rather than saying you “analyzed data from wind turbines,” you could say you “analyzed data from wind turbines to identify opportunities for cost reduction and increased efficiency.”

The second bullet point provides more detail about what exactly you did and the results of your work. And it also provides a clear example of how your work impacted the company and its bottom line.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you apply for a job as a renewable energy engineer, your resume goes through an applicant tracking system (ATS). This software scans your resume for specific keywords related to the position, like “solar energy” or “wind power.” If your resume doesn’t include enough of the right terms, the ATS might filter out your application.

To increase your chances of getting an interview, use this list of keywords as a starting point and then add in other relevant terms that are specific to the role you’re applying for:

  • Renewable Energy
  • Engineering
  • Power Generation
  • Power Plants
  • Energy
  • Energy Engineering
  • Renewable Energy Engineering
  • Electricity
  • Process Engineering
  • Project Engineering
  • Solar Energy
  • Energy Management
  • Instrumentation
  • Petroleum
  • Coal
  • Gas
  • Wind Energy
  • Chemical Engineering
  • MATLAB
  • Gas Turbine
  • Project Management
  • Engineering Management
  • Research and Development (R&D)
  • Project Planning
  • Simulations
  • Automation
  • CATIA
  • SAP Products
  • Negotiation
  • Microsoft Access

Showcase Your Technical Skills

As a renewable energy engineer, you need to be proficient in the use of technology in order to design and implement efficient renewable energy systems. Recruiters are looking for engineers who are familiar with renewable energy concepts and who have experience with specific programs, like AutoCAD, HOMER, and PVsyst. They also want to see that you have a solid understanding of the physics of renewable energy systems.

So if you have experience with any of these programs or concepts, be sure to list them on your resume. And if you’re not familiar with them, now is the time to learn them!
