How to Write a Sales Agent Resume

Here’s how to write a sales agent resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

The best bullet points are specific and descriptive. They should include details about the type of work you did, the results of your work, and the impact it had on the company or clients.

For example, rather than saying you “managed sales team,” you could say that you “managed sales team to increase sales by 15% in first quarter, resulting in an increase in quarterly revenue of $2 million.”

Notice how the second bullet point is more specific and provides more detail about what exactly you did and the results of your work.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you apply for a sales agent role, your resume is likely to be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. These programs look for certain terms related to the job, like “sales” and “account management,” in order to determine whether your skills are a match for the job. If your resume doesn’t include enough of the right keywords, your application might not make it past the initial screening process.

The best way to make sure your resume includes all of the right keywords is to carefully read through each job posting and take note of the terms that are used most frequently. Then, you can use those same terms on your resume when you describe your relevant skills and experience. Here are some of the most common sales agent keywords:

  • Sales
  • Customer Service
  • Negotiation
  • Teamwork
  • Marketing
  • Social Media
  • Sales Management
  • Business Development
  • Contract Negotiation
  • Management
  • Business Strategy

  • Working with First-Time Home Buyers
  • Working with Investors

  • Sales Process

  • Research
  • Negotiation Strategies
  • Sales & Marketing

Showcase Your Technical Skills

Sales agents use technology to communicate with clients and to research potential leads. They also use technology to create presentations and proposals. Therefore, it is important for sales agents to be proficient in a variety of software programs and systems.

Some of the most commonly used programs are Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), CRM software, and social media platforms like LinkedIn and Twitter. Additionally, sales agents should be familiar with the business landscape and the types of products and services that their company offers.
