How to Write a Senior Architect Resume

Here’s how to write a senior architect resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

When it comes to your bullet points, the more specific you can be about your experience and accomplishments, the better. For example, rather than saying you “provided technical guidance to junior engineers,” you could say that you “provided technical guidance to junior engineers on the design of high-rise buildings, resulting in a 15% increase in structural integrity and a 10% decrease in building materials required.”

The second bullet point is much stronger because it provides specific details about what you did and the results of your work. It also includes quantifiable results (15% increase in structural integrity and 10% decrease in building materials required).

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you submit your resume online, it’s likely that it will be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. These programs search for specific terms related to the job opening in order to determine whether or not you have the skills and experience needed for the role. If your resume doesn’t include enough of the right keywords, the ATS might automatically reject your application.

The best way to make sure your resume makes it past the ATS is to include keywords throughout all sections of your document. You can find a list of commonly used keywords below, but it’s important to note that these will vary from one role to another.

  • Architecture
  • Architectural Design
  • Building Information Modeling (BIM)
  • Revit
  • Construction
  • Construction Management
  • AutoCAD
  • Construction Drawings
  • SketchUp
  • Architectural Drawings
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Submittals
  • Project Planning
  • Design Research
  • Construction Drawings
  • Sustainable Design
  • Project Management
  • Concept Development
  • Interior Design
  • Sustainable Architecture
  • Residential Design
  • Home Builders
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • 3D Modeling
  • Sketching
  • Project Estimation
  • Design
  • MicroStation
  • Project Management
  • Requirements Analysis

Showcase Your Technical Skills

As a senior architect, you will need to be proficient in a variety of software programs in order to effectively design and oversee the construction of buildings. Some of the most commonly used programs in the architectural field are AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp. Additionally, senior architects are often responsible for managing a team of junior architects and designers, so it is also important to list any relevant management experience you may have.
