Example: “If I were assigned to work on a product that I didn’t feel comfortable designing, I would first try to find out why I was assigned to it in the first place. Describe your process for testing a new design.

What do you think is the most important aspect of a product’s visual design?

This question can help the interviewer understand your design philosophy and how you prioritize different aspects of a product’s visual design. Your answer should show that you have an understanding of what makes a good user experience, as well as how to create it.

Example: “I think the most important aspect of a product’s visual design is its usability. A product’s visual design must be aesthetically pleasing, but if it doesn’t also make using the product easy for the end-user, then it won’t matter. I always start with creating a prototype that has the basic functionality needed by the target audience. Then, I use feedback from users and other stakeholders to iterate on the design until it meets all of the necessary requirements.”

How often do you update your portfolio with new designs?

Employers want to know how often you update your portfolio and what kind of work you include. They also want to see that you’re proud of your work and willing to share it with others. Show them that you have a strong portfolio by describing the last time you updated it and what you included in the new version.

Example: “I just finished updating my portfolio, which I do every six months or so. In this most recent update, I added three new designs for clients I worked with at my previous job. I also included some older projects that I’m particularly proud of.”

There is a new technology that could drastically change the way you design products. How do you investigate it and decide how to use it in your work?

This question is a great way to show your knowledge of new technologies and how you would apply them in your work. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention the specific steps you take when researching a new technology and deciding how to use it in your design process.
