2. If hired, how will you help Stand Together achieve its mission?

7. Describe a time that you worked on a project that required extensive research.

Interviewers may ask this question to learn more about your research skills and how you apply them in the workplace. When answering, consider describing a time when you used your research skills to help solve a problem or achieve a goal for your team.

Example: “In my last role as an event planner, I was tasked with organizing a large fundraising gala that required extensive research on local businesses and vendors. I started by researching different venues and contacting each one to see if they were available for our event date. Then, I researched caterers, florists, entertainment options and other services we might need for the event. After reaching out to several companies, I narrowed down our choices based on price and availability. This process helped me find the best vendors for our event.”

8. Do you have any experience working at a non-profit organization?

This question can help the interviewer determine if you have any experience working in a similar environment. If you don’t, it’s okay to explain what kind of work you’ve done that is relevant to this position.

Example: “I worked at a local animal shelter for two years before I moved here. The organization was small and didn’t have much funding, so we had to do most of our fundraising ourselves. We also relied on volunteers to help us care for the animals. It was a rewarding job because I got to see firsthand how my work helped the animals.”

9. Why do you want to work for Stand Together?

Salesforce is a popular CRM software that many businesses use to manage their sales and marketing efforts. If you have experience using Salesforce, the interviewer may ask you more specific questions about your previous experience with it. If you haven’t used Salesforce before, you can talk about other CRM systems you’ve worked with or how you would learn to use Salesforce if hired.

Example: “I have used Salesforce in my last two jobs. I find it’s an effective tool for managing leads and tracking important information about clients. It also helps me stay organized by creating tasks and reminders so I don’t forget anything when working on projects.”

12. What areas of accounting are you most interested in learning more about?

This question can help the interviewer get a sense of your interests and how you approach learning new things. It also helps them understand what areas you might be most interested in working on if hired, so they can determine which projects to assign you. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention an area that is relevant to the job but also something you are genuinely curious about.

13. We are looking for someone who can manage multiple projects at once. Give me an example of a time where you managed several projects at once.

14. What types of financial reports have you prepared in the past?

The interviewer may ask this question to learn more about your experience with financial reports and how you use them in your work. Use your answer to highlight the types of reports you’ve prepared, including any that were unique or challenging.

Example: “In my last role as a bookkeeper, I prepared several different types of financial reports for my clients. These included balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements and client-specific reports that detailed their revenue and expenses. I also created budgets for some of my clients, which helped me understand what they needed from their financial reports.”

15. What is one of your biggest weaknesses?

Employers ask this question to learn more about your personality and how you view yourself. They want to know that you are self-aware, but they also want to see what steps you take to overcome any weaknesses. When answering this question, be honest and specific. Try to choose a weakness that is not too detrimental to your career or one that you have already worked on improving.

Example: “I am an extremely organized person, which can sometimes lead me to micromanaging my team members. I’ve learned to balance my need for organization with the importance of giving others autonomy. Now, when I feel like I’m getting too involved in someone else’s work, I step back and let them do their job.”

16. Are you comfortable handling confidential information?

Stand Together is a nonprofit that works with clients who are experiencing domestic violence. As such, you may be privy to sensitive information about your clients and their families. Interviewers want to make sure you understand the importance of keeping this information confidential. In your answer, explain how you would handle this responsibility.

Example: “I am very aware of the importance of confidentiality in my work as a social worker. I have worked with many clients who were going through difficult situations. While I can’t share specific details about any client’s situation, I always keep their best interests at heart. If anyone asks me for more information than what I’m comfortable sharing, I will refer them to someone else.”

17. Tell me about a time where you were faced with a difficult problem and how you handled it.

This question is a great way to assess your problem-solving skills. It also allows you to showcase how you can work with others and communicate effectively. When answering this question, it’s important to be specific about the situation and provide details on what actions you took to resolve the issue.

Example: “In my previous role as an event planner, I was faced with a difficult problem when one of our sponsors backed out last minute. This left us without enough money to pay for all of the supplies we needed for the event. Instead of panicking, I called together a meeting with my team to discuss possible solutions. We decided that instead of canceling the event, we would ask each vendor if they could lower their prices. Luckily, most were willing to do so. We then asked attendees to donate more money than originally planned. The event ended up being a success.”

18. Tell me about a time where you took initiative on a task without being asked.

This question is a great way to show your leadership skills and how you can take charge in a situation. When answering this question, it’s important to highlight the positive outcome of your actions.

Example: “When I was working at my previous job, we had an event coming up that required us to create a new marketing campaign. The company didn’t have any direction on what they wanted for the campaign, so I took initiative by creating a survey asking our target audience about their preferences. After collecting enough data from the survey, I presented the information to my team and created a few different concepts for the marketing campaign.”

19. How do you handle stress?

Employers ask this question to learn how you react to stressful situations. They want to know that you can handle stress in a productive way and remain calm when working with others. In your answer, share two or three strategies you use to manage stress. Explain why these strategies work for you.

Example: “I find deep breathing to be an effective method of managing stress. When I feel stressed, I take a few minutes to close my eyes and focus on my breath. This helps me relax and regain control of my emotions. Another strategy I use is positive self-talk. If I start to get overwhelmed by the situation, I remind myself that I am capable of handling it. Reminding myself of this fact helps me stay focused and confident.”

20. What do you know about Stand Together’s mission and values?

This question is a great way to test your knowledge of the company’s mission and values. It also shows that you have done some research on the organization before coming in for an interview. When answering this question, make sure to include information about Stand Together’s goals and how they align with your own personal goals.
