How to Write a Sustainability Coordinator Resume

Here’s how to write a sustainability coordinator resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

When you’re writing bullet points, it can be tempting to simply list your responsibilities. But that’s not enough to make a strong impression. Instead, you should use your bullet points to demonstrate your value by highlighting your accomplishments, results, and key contributions.

For example, rather than saying you “managed sustainability initiatives,” you could say that you “led sustainability initiatives to reduce company carbon footprint by 20%, resulting in $2 million in annual savings.”

The second bullet point paints a much clearer picture of what you did and the results of your work. And it also provides a specific number to demonstrate the scale of the project.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you apply for a sustainability coordinator role, your resume is likely to be scanned by an applicant tracking system (ATS) for certain keywords. The ATS looks for keywords related to the position, like “sustainability” and “environmental policy.” If your resume doesn’t have enough of these terms, your application might not make it past the first round of screening.

To increase your chances of getting an interview, use this list of common sustainability coordinator keywords as a starting point to help you highlight relevant experience and skills on your resume:

  • Sustainability
  • Environmental Sustainability
  • Environmental Awareness
  • Environmental Management Systems
  • Environmental Education
  • Environmental Compliance
  • Environment
  • Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
  • Environmental Policy

  • Recycling
  • Waste Management
  • Conservation
  • Green Building
  • Event Planning
  • Public Speaking

  • Research
  • Event Management
  • Teamwork
  • Nonprofit Organizations
  • Social Media
  • Food Security
  • Project Management
  • Public Relations

Showcase Your Technical Skills

As a sustainability coordinator, you need to be proficient in a variety of software programs and systems in order to effectively manage and monitor your company’s sustainability initiatives. This might include experience with energy management software, carbon accounting software, and water conservation software. You should also be familiar with sustainable development goals and reporting standards, such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
