How to Write a Team Lead Resume

Here’s how to write a team lead resume of your own.

Write Compelling Bullet Points

Bullet points are the most important part of your resume because they’re the first thing recruiters and hiring managers will see. And if they’re not compelling and interesting, they won’t get read. So it’s important to use them to your advantage by highlighting your most important accomplishments and skills.

For example, rather than saying you “managed team of 10 engineers,” you could say you “managed team of 10 engineers to achieve record-breaking Q1 results by delivering new software features on time and under budget.”

The second bullet point is more specific and provides more detail about what exactly you did and the results of your work.

Identify and Include Relevant Keywords

When you submit your resume for a team lead role, it’s likely that it will be screened by an applicant tracking system (ATS). This program will search for certain keywords related to the job opening in order to determine whether your skills and experience are a match.

Because ATS programs are designed to scan resumes for specific terms, it’s important to include them throughout all sections of your application. Here are some of the most commonly used team lead keywords:

  • Team Leadership
  • Sales
  • Customer Service
  • Account Management
  • Time Management
  • Team Building
  • Customer Satisfaction
  • Microsoft Access
  • Teamwork
  • Social Media
  • Team Leadership Development
  • Management
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Strategic Planning
  • Marketing
  • Sales Management
  • Event Planning
  • Leadership
  • Retail
  • Project Management
  • Inventory Management
  • Merchandising
  • Merchandise Planning
  • Fashion
  • Visual Merchandising
  • Styling
  • Retail Sales
  • Loss Prevention
  • Cashiering
  • Fashion Design

Showcase Your Technical Skills

As a team lead, you will need to be proficient in a variety of software programs and systems in order to effectively manage your team. Some of the most commonly used programs are project management software, task management software, and customer relationship management (CRM) software. Additionally, team leads need to be familiar with the various types of communication systems used in the workplace, such as email, instant messaging, and video conferencing.
