TechnipFMC Interview Process

The interview process at TechnipFMC can vary depending on the position you are applying for. However, most positions will require at least a CV screening, phone interview, and interview with HR and managers. For some positions, there may also be an assessment day consisting of mechanical engineering tasks, talking to managers in Norway/UK, and a presentation on a technical topic. The interviews are generally conversational and relaxed, but be prepared to answer questions about your experience and qualifications for the job.

Common TechnipFMC Interview Questions

1. What is your experience with process engineering?

This question can help the interviewer determine your experience with a specific type of engineering. When answering, it can be helpful to mention any previous projects you worked on that involved process engineering and how they helped you develop your skills in this area.

Example: “In my last position as an engineer for TechnipFMC, I was responsible for overseeing several projects involving process engineering. One project required me to design a new system for transporting oil from one location to another. This meant I had to create a plan for piping systems, storage tanks and other elements of the transportation process. After working through the different steps of the project, I realized that there were many ways to complete the task at hand. However, I also learned that some methods are more efficient than others.”

2. Describe a time where you had to solve a problem that was not straightforward. How did you approach the problem?

This question is a great way to show your problem-solving skills. It also allows you to demonstrate how you use logic and critical thinking to solve problems. When answering this question, it can be helpful to describe the steps you took to solve the problem.

Example: “When I was working on my master’s degree, I had a project that required me to create an algorithm for a specific type of software. However, when I started writing the code, I realized that there were some elements missing from the program. This meant that I would have to rewrite the entire program in order to add the new features. Instead of rewriting the whole program, I decided to write a separate module that could be added later. This allowed me to complete the assignment without having to start over.”

3. Do you have any experience with equipment design and testing?

This question can help the interviewer determine your experience with a specific type of work. If you have relevant experience, share it in detail to show how you apply your skills and knowledge to complete projects. If you don’t have any experience, consider sharing what you would do if faced with this task.

Example: “In my previous role as an engineer for a construction company, I was responsible for designing equipment that could withstand harsh conditions while also being cost-effective. I used computer modeling software to test different designs before building them so we could ensure they were safe and effective. This helped us save money on materials and time spent constructing equipment.”

4. If hired, what type of projects do you see yourself working on?

This question is a great way for the interviewer to get an idea of your experience level and how you view yourself in relation to the company. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention projects that are similar to those TechnipFMC works on or ones that you have worked on before.

Example: “I see myself working on large-scale projects with long timelines. I’ve done several projects like these in my career, so I’m confident in my ability to work on them. In fact, I was part of a team that completed a project just like this last year.”

5. TechnipFMC is a global company, are you comfortable relocating as needed?

If you’re interviewing for a position with TechnipFMC, it’s likely that the company will need to move you around the world. This question is an opportunity to show your willingness to relocate and adapt to new environments. In your answer, explain how you’ve done this in the past or what steps you can take to make moving easier.

Example: “I’m happy to relocate as needed. I have moved several times throughout my career, so I know how to prepare for a move. I also have experience working remotely, so if there are positions available where I don’t need to be on-site, I would love to apply.”

6. Give an example of a project you worked on that required collaboration between multiple departments.

This question can help the interviewer gain insight into your communication skills and ability to work with others. Use examples from previous projects that highlight your teamwork abilities, collaboration skills and problem-solving capabilities.

Example: “In my last position as a senior engineer, I worked on a project where we needed to collaborate with multiple departments including engineering, operations and sales. The goal of this project was to create an offshore platform for oil drilling. My team and I had to communicate with each department to understand their needs and expectations. We also had to meet regularly with our clients to discuss progress and answer questions about the project. Collaborating with these different teams helped us complete the project successfully.”

7. Can you tell me about a time when you were working on a team project and there was conflict, how did you handle it?

This question is a great way to see how you work with others and your ability to resolve conflict. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention the steps you took to resolve the conflict and what you learned from the experience.

Example: “When I was working on my master’s degree, there were two other students who had different ideas about how we should complete our project. One student wanted to use one method while the other wanted to use another. The three of us met to discuss the situation, and I suggested that we try both methods and compare the results. We all agreed, and after completing the project, we found that using both methods together worked best.”

8. Tell us why you want to work at TechnipFMC.

This question is a great way to see how much you know about the company. It also gives you an opportunity to show your enthusiasm for the position and why it’s important to you. When answering this question, make sure to highlight some of the company’s most impressive qualities.

Example: “I want to work at TechnipFMC because I’ve always been impressed by its commitment to innovation. The company has developed so many new technologies that have changed the industry. 9. Provide an example of a time where you went above and beyond for a customer.

This question is a great way to show your interviewer that you are willing to go the extra mile for customers. It also shows them how you can be an asset to their company by providing excellent customer service. When answering this question, it’s important to highlight your communication skills and willingness to help others.

Example: “When I was working as a sales representative at my previous job, I had a client who needed some additional training on our products. They were having trouble using our software program, so I offered to come in early one day to train them on how to use it. This helped them get up to speed with the software and allowed me to provide exceptional customer service.”

10. What would you say is your greatest strength and weakness?

This question is a common one in interviews, and it’s important to be honest. Employers want to know what your greatest strengths are so they can use them when you’re on the job. They also want to know about any weaknesses that you’re working on improving or have already improved.

Example: “My greatest strength is my attention to detail. I’m always looking for ways to improve processes and make sure everything is done correctly. My weakness is that sometimes I get too focused on details and forget to look at the big picture. I’ve been working on this by taking more breaks during projects to ensure I don’t lose sight of the goal.”

11. What is your experience with designing and releasing software?

This question can help the interviewer understand your experience with a specific skill that is important to TechnipFMC. Use examples from previous work or school projects to highlight your ability to complete this task successfully.

Example: “In my last position, I was responsible for creating and maintaining software programs that were used by our team members to track project data. This included updating existing software and adding new features as needed. I also created training materials for other employees who wanted to learn how to use the program. In my current role, I am still working on implementing new software into our system.”

12. We want our assembly line workers to be able to work independently. Do you think you would be a good fit for that type of environment?

This question is a great way for the interviewer to get an idea of your ability to work independently. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention some examples of how you have worked independently in the past and what skills helped you succeed.

Example: “I think I would be a good fit for that type of environment because I am used to working on my own. In my last position, I was often tasked with completing projects without much guidance from my supervisor. This allowed me to learn new things about my job and develop my problem-solving skills.”

13. Do you have experience working in a team environment?

This question can help the interviewer determine how you will fit in with their team. When answering, it can be helpful to mention a specific time when you worked well with others and helped achieve a goal or project.

Example: “I have experience working in teams throughout my career. In my last position, I was part of a small team that focused on designing new equipment for oil rigs. 15. How often do you like to be in contact with your team when working on a project?

This question can help the interviewer determine how you interact with your team and whether you prefer to work independently or in a group. Your answer should show that you value teamwork and collaboration, but also have the ability to complete projects on your own if necessary.

Example: “I like to be in contact with my team as often as possible when working on a project. I find it helpful to ask questions about specific tasks so I can understand what everyone is doing and ensure we’re all working toward the same goal. However, I also know there are times when I need to focus on one task at a time without distraction. In those cases, I make sure to communicate with my team members before going offline.”

16. What is the most important thing to remember when trying to be innovative?

This question is a great way to see how you approach innovation. Your answer should show the interviewer that you know what it takes to be innovative and can apply those skills in your work.

Example: “Innovation is all about finding new ways to solve problems, so I think the most important thing to remember when trying to be innovative is to always look for solutions. When I’m working on a project, I try to ask myself questions like ‘How else could we do this?’ or ‘What other options are there?’ These questions help me find new ways of doing things and make sure I don’t overlook any possible solutions.”

17. Which area of mechanical engineering are you most interested in?

This question can help the interviewer determine if your interests align with those of TechnipFMC. You should answer honestly and explain why you are interested in this area.

General Motors is a company that values innovation, and they want to know what you think about it. This question can help them determine if your thoughts align with their own. In your answer, try to explain why innovation is important and how you would approach the process of innovating in your career.

Example: “Innovation is one of the most important things for companies to remember because it’s what keeps them relevant. If you’re not innovating, then you’re falling behind. I think the most important thing when trying to innovate is to make sure you have an open mind. You should be willing to try new things and take risks. Sometimes those risks pay off, and sometimes they don’t, but either way, you learn something.”

19. Describe your experience working with mechanical components.

This question can help the interviewer determine your mechanical aptitude and how you apply it to a project. Use examples from previous projects that highlight your ability to work with mechanical components, including any challenges you faced and how you overcame them.

Example: “In my last position as an engineer for a construction company, I worked on several projects involving mechanical components. One of these projects was installing a new water filtration system at a local school. The original filtration system had broken down, so we needed to replace it before students returned in the fall.

I started by assessing the current filtration system and determining what parts were most likely to break. Then, I designed a new filtration system that would be more efficient than the old one. After installation, the new filtration system lasted three years before needing replacement.”

20. How well do you work under pressure?

This question is a great way to assess your ability to work under pressure and still meet deadlines. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention a time when you had to complete a project or task in a short amount of time.

Example: “I find that I am able to work well under pressure. In my last position, there were several times where we needed to rush projects due to client demands. I was able to adapt quickly to the new timelines and get all of my tasks completed on time. One example was when I was working on a pipeline project for an oil company. The client wanted us to finish the project within two months, but they didn’t want to pay any more than their original contract. We worked hard as a team to make sure we met our deadline.”
