When it comes to social media, there are a few platforms that stand out above the rest. TikTok is one of those platforms. With its unique format and engaging content, TikTok has quickly become one of the most popular social media platforms.

If you’re looking for a job at TikTok, you can expect to be asked some company specific interview questions. In this article, we’ll give you a few examples of TikTok interview questions and how to answer them.

TikTok Interview Process

The interview process at TikTok can vary depending on the position you are applying for. However, most positions will require at least a phone screening with HR and an online panel interview with 2-4 other candidates. For some positions, you may also be required to complete an online interview with HR about the offer and salary. Additionally, some positions may require a technical test or presentation as part of the interview process. Overall, the interview process can be lengthy and difficult, but it varies depending on the position you are applying for.

1. What do you think TikTok’s biggest competitor is?

This question is a great way to test your knowledge of the industry and how you can apply it to TikTok. You should be able to name at least one competitor, but if you know more than that, feel free to list them all.

Example: “I think TikTok’s biggest competitor is Instagram because they both have similar features like filters and short videos. I also think Musical.ly is their biggest competitor because they are very similar in terms of content.”

2. Why would your friends want to use TikTok?

This question is a great way to test your knowledge of the app and how it can be used. You should answer this question by describing what you like about TikTok, as well as why you think others would enjoy using it too.

Example: “I love TikTok because I can use it to connect with my friends in a fun way. It’s a great platform for sharing videos that are entertaining or funny, and I know many of my friends feel the same way. They also use it to share their talents and hobbies, which makes me want to keep using it.”

3. Tell us about a time when you had to deal with an upset user, how did you handle it?

An interviewer may ask this question to assess your customer service skills. This is because you will likely have to interact with users on TikTok, and it’s important that you can handle any issues they might have in a professional manner. In your answer, try to highlight how you used your problem-solving and communication skills to resolve the issue.

Example: “I once had an upset user who was complaining about our app not working for them. I first listened to what they were saying and asked questions to understand their issue better. Then, I tried to explain why there could be a problem with the app and offered solutions to fix it. The user seemed satisfied with my response and thanked me for my help.”

4. Do you have experience working in social media?

Social media is a growing industry, and many employers want to know if you have experience working in this field. If you do, share your previous role and how it prepared you for the position you’re applying for. If you don’t have any social media experience, explain why you think you would be a good fit for the company’s social media team.

Example: “I worked as a blogger for my college newspaper where I wrote articles about campus events and news. This helped me develop my writing skills and learn more about what people are interested in reading online.”

5. How would you respond if a customer told you that they were not happy with the service?

This question is a great way to assess how you would respond to customer complaints and determine if you have the right attitude for working in customer service. When answering this question, it can be helpful to think of a time when you had to help a customer with an issue or problem.

Example: “I once worked at a coffee shop where I was responsible for making customers’ drinks. One day, a woman came up to me and told me that she wasn’t happy with her drink because there were ice cubes floating in it. At first, I thought about telling her that we didn’t make any mistakes but then decided to apologize and remake her drink. She ended up being very pleased with the new drink.”

6. Describe one of your favorite videos on TikTok and why you liked it.

This question is a great way to show your knowledge of the platform and how you use it. It also gives the interviewer insight into what types of content you enjoy, which can help them understand more about who you are as a person.

Example: “My favorite video on TikTok was one that I saw from my friend’s account where she was lip-syncing along with her cat. She had such a good time making the video, and it was so cute seeing her interact with her pet. I think it’s important to have fun while using social media, and this video really showed that.”

7. Give us an example of a time where you took initiative outside of what was expected of you.

This question is a great way to show your problem-solving skills and ability to take initiative. When answering this question, it can be helpful to think of a time when you were faced with a challenge or obstacle that required you to step outside of your comfort zone in order to find a solution.

Example: “At my previous job, I was responsible for managing the social media accounts for our company. One day, I noticed that one of our Instagram posts wasn’t showing up on any of the user’s feeds. This meant that no one could see our post. I immediately contacted my supervisor about the issue and we worked together to figure out what happened. It turned out that there was an error with the app that caused the post not to appear on anyone’s feed. We fixed the issue and everything returned to normal.”

8. If hired, how would you motivate users to create content for our platform?

This question is an opportunity to show your creativity and problem-solving skills. You can use examples from previous experiences that demonstrate how you motivated others to create content for a social media platform or app.

Example: “I would first analyze the current user base of TikTok, then I would find ways to encourage users to make more videos on the platform. For example, when I worked at XYZ Company, we had a similar situation where our company needed to increase video creation among users. We created a contest where users could win prizes if they made the most creative videos. This strategy increased the number of daily active users who were creating content by 20%.”

9. Would you be comfortable monitoring sexual and violent content?

TikTok is a social media platform that allows users to share videos and images. It also has an app called “TikTok for Creators” where users can create their own content. As such, it’s important that the company hires people who are comfortable monitoring sexual and violent content on the platform. Your answer should show your willingness to do so.

Example: “I am very comfortable with monitoring sexual and violent content. I have worked in similar positions before, and I know how to report inappropriate content quickly. I understand that TikTok is a family-friendly platform, and I will make sure that all of the content posted by users meets our standards.”

10. Have you worked as part of a team before?

This question is a great way to determine how well you work with others and your ability to collaborate. When answering this question, it can be helpful to mention specific instances where you worked as part of a team or group project in the past.

Example: “I have worked on several projects throughout my college career that required me to work alongside other students. In one instance, I was working on a marketing campaign for a client and had to create an advertisement with two other classmates. We all came up with different ideas but were able to combine them into one final product.”

11. Tell me about a time when you gave feedback to someone who disagreed with you.

This question can help an interviewer understand how you handle conflict and disagreements. It can also show them that you’re willing to give constructive feedback, even if it’s not always positive.

Example: “I once worked with a team member who was constantly late for meetings. I tried talking to him about it several times, but he didn’t seem to care or take my advice seriously. Eventually, I scheduled a meeting with our manager and asked her to attend so she could hear the situation firsthand. She agreed, and we had a productive discussion where I explained why his behavior was negatively impacting the team. Afterward, he apologized and started showing up on time.”

12. Tell me about a difficult situation you faced while dealing with customers.

This question is a great way to see how you handle conflict and challenges. When answering this question, it can be helpful to think of a time when you had to solve a problem for a customer or client.

Example: “I once worked at a coffee shop where I was the only barista on duty. This meant that I would have to make every drink while also taking orders from customers. One day, there were many people in line waiting for their drinks. A woman came up to me and asked if she could get her latte with soy milk instead of regular milk. I told her that we didn’t have any more soy milk left, but I offered her a free refill on her next visit.”

13. What are some ways we can improve TikTok?

This question is a great way to show your knowledge of the app and how you can improve it. You should list ways that you would make TikTok more efficient, fun or engaging for users.

Example: “I think one way we could improve TikTok is by adding an option where users can choose whether they want to see ads in their feed or not. I know some people don’t like seeing ads on social media platforms, so this would be a good feature to add. Another improvement would be allowing users to upload longer videos. Currently, the longest video length is 15 seconds, which isn’t very long at all.”

14. If a video violates our terms of service but is popular among other users, should it still be removed?

This question is a test of your ethics and moral compass. It’s important to be honest in your answer, as you may have to make this decision at some point during your career with the company.

Example: “I would remove it if I thought it was inappropriate or offensive. If I didn’t think it was harmful, I would leave it up because that’s what users want. However, I would flag it for review by my supervisor so they could decide whether to keep it online.”

15. Is there anything else you would like to tell us about yourself?

This question is a great opportunity to show your personality and creativity. You can use this time to share something that you are passionate about, or talk about how you have overcome challenges in the past.

16. Competitors are copying us, how would you react?

This question is a great way to test your problem-solving skills and how you react under pressure. It’s important to show that you can think on your feet, but also remain calm in the face of adversity.

Example: “I would first assess why they are copying us. If it’s because we’re doing something right, I’d be happy about it. However, if they are copying us because we’re not performing well, then I would take action immediately. I would analyze our current situation and find out what needs improvement. Then, I would implement changes as soon as possible.”

17. What do you know about TikTok?

This question is a great way to test your knowledge of the platform and how you can use it. You should be able to answer this question with ease, as it will show that you are familiar with the app and its features.

Example: “TikTok is an app where users create short videos by lip-syncing or dancing to music. The app has over 500 million active monthly users who share their content on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook. TikTok also offers in-app purchases for premium content.”

18. What are some of your strengths and weaknesses?

This question is a common one in interviews, and it’s important to be honest about your strengths and weaknesses. When answering this question, think of two or three things you’re good at and two or three things you need to improve on.

Example: “I’m very organized and detail-oriented, which helps me stay focused when I’m working on projects. However, sometimes I get so caught up in my work that I forget to take breaks. This has led to some minor health issues in the past, but I’ve learned to balance my work with taking regular breaks.”

19. Are you comfortable with nudity or violence?

This question is a way for employers to understand your comfort level with certain content and how you would moderate it. It’s important to be honest in your answer, as you may be asked to moderate content that includes nudity or violence.

In your answer, explain how you stay calm in high-pressure situations. Share an example of a time when you had to complete a task or project on deadline.

Example: “I am very organized and efficient with my time. I have always been able to manage multiple tasks at once without getting overwhelmed. When working under pressure, I try to remain calm and focused. This helps me get through the day more smoothly.
